She placed her laptop on a nearby chair, grabbed the cartoon pajamas she had brought over from Yara's, and went into the bathroom.
When she came out, Miles was patiently reading a children's storybook to Leo over the phone.
The second he saw her, the warm smile vanished from his face.
He turned back to the screen, his voice gentle again. "Go to sleep now, Leo. I'll read you another one tomorrow."
Jade prompted the boy. "Say goodnight, Daddy!"
After hanging up, Miles threw a glance at Quinn, a flicker of mockery in his eyes.
So she finally realized he had zero interest in her, and now she was wearing cartoon pajamas?
How old was she, wearing a nightgown with a giant cat face on it? It was incredibly childish.
"I'm taking the bed tonight. You're on the sofa. We'll take turns."
Quinn didn't say a word. She simply grabbed a blanket and walked over to the sofa in the sitting area.
Miles had fully expected her to argue with him, assuming she wouldn't give up the bed so easily.
Who knew she would just quietly grab a blanket and leave?
The unexpected compliance left Miles staring after her in surprise.
Then again, it was probably just another pathetic tactic to grab his attention.
Late into the night, Miles was woken by a strange noise. His brow furrowed in annoyance as he rolled over, but the sound persisted.
He flipped on the bedside lamp, searching for the source, and found it was coming from the sofa where Quinn was sleeping.
Irritation flared in his chest. He hadn't slept well the night before either.
Now, just as he finally had a chance to rest, he was being woken up again.
"Luna... Mommy is here... don't be scared..."
Miles couldn't quite catch everything, only that she kept repeating the name 'Luna'.
Was she dreaming about that little girl?
Quinn's lips trembled as she mumbled. Her voice was fractured, making it hard to hear, but the raw terror and helplessness were unmistakable.
"No, please... Miles, you can't take them away..."
