Night fell.

Jocelyn was sleeping in the master bedroom with Joyce and Luther.

When Joyce stepped out of the bathroom after her shower, she found the two of them on the large bed. Luther, dressed in a crisp white bathrobe, was propped up on one arm, cradling Jocelyn like a little lamb against his chest. He was trying to coax her into calling him 'Daddy.' While Jocelyn was naturally affectionate, she knew she already had a father and stubbornly refused. Unfazed, the man pulled a handful of colorful candies from the nightstand to bribe her.

*Luther, are you seriously this childish?*

The words almost slipped out, but Joyce froze.

The phrase felt entirely too familiar, as if she had spoken it in another lifetime. And it didn't sound like something she would say to Luther—it sounded exactly like something Mrs. Sanford would have said to her husband.

Why was that?

Was it because of this house?

This was Luther and his late wife's marital home. Why didn't she feel the slightest bit uncomfortable here? Why did everything feel so incredibly natural? The body wash was her favorite scent, the skincare products were perfectly suited for her skin type, and even the new silk nightgown was exactly the material she loved. While washing her face, she had reached for the faucet and the cleanser with her eyes closed, as if she had done it a thousand times before.

Joyce stood in a daze for a long time.

The man on the bed glanced up, his gaze immediately darkening. She was wearing a pale ivory silk nightgown, the hem doing little to hide her long, perfectly toned legs. But with Jocelyn in the room, he couldn't exactly act on his thoughts, so he simply looked back down and continued bribing the toddler to call him 'Daddy.'

Jocelyn couldn't resist the temptation of the candy.

In a sweet, soft voice, she babbled, "Daddy."

She even grabbed his face and planted a wet kiss on his cheek.

Luther let out a low, genuine laugh.

He was already devastatingly handsome, but when he smiled, faint dimples appeared, making him look like a striking movie star. To Jocelyn, he was just a pretty uncle, but to Joyce, the sight was incredibly alluring. Pulling her robe tighter around herself, she carefully climbed into the other side of the bed and joined in playing with the baby. Seeing her aunt, Jocelyn immediately crawled over and buried her face in Joyce's chest, falling fast asleep in less than a minute.

Luther looked surprised.
