She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 922

"No thanks. We're good."

The voice didn't belong to Giselle. Like a ghost, Hank had quietly stepped out of his room and appeared right behind her. Leaning down toward the receiver, he declared, "She already has a driver."

Myles froze at the sound of the man's voice. A second later, Giselle came back on the line.

"Sorry about that," she muttered, immediately hanging up. She turned around, glaring at Hank. "When exactly did I hire you to be my driver?"

Hank held up his phone, displaying the ride-hailing app, and pointed to her order number. "Is this your phone number?"

Giselle stared at his driver profile, absolutely dumbfounded. "You picked up my ride request? Did you hire a hacker to breach my phone?"

"I wouldn't do something like that. It was pure coincidence," Hank said breezily. "This area is pretty remote. How many drivers do you think are actually out here taking orders? I figured you'd need to book a car, so I downloaded the app and registered as a driver. The dispatch system works based on proximity, right?"

He glanced at the distance metric between them and smirked. "I'd say we're close enough, wouldn't you agree, Ms. Turner?"

When he had returned to his room late last night, he anticipated she would need transportation. On a whim, he decided to register as a local driver. However, after uploading his documents, the system had told him his application was 'under review' and would take one to two business days.

Hank wasn't about to wait that long. He immediately dropped three hundred million to buy out the entire regional branch of the ride-hailing company, using his newfound executive access to fast-track his own background check. Just like that, he became a proud, fully registered driver.

A few minutes ago, when Giselle opened the app and placed her order, the automated system immediately assigned it to him. He had been brushing his teeth when the notification popped up. Smiling through a mouthful of toothpaste, he thought to himself that even the algorithm knew they belonged together.

"Are you absolutely sure you didn't hire a hacker to invade my privacy?" Giselle eyed him with deep suspicion.

Hank knew she was still traumatized by his past behavior, so he answered her with complete honesty. "I just thought the local ride-hailing infrastructure had great potential, so I threw some money at it and bought the company."

"How much is 'some money'?" she asked.

Hank held up three fingers.

Chloe gasped. "Three million?"

Hank glanced at her. "Three hundred million."

Chloe sharply inhaled, completely floored by his casual display of wealth. She couldn't comprehend the mindset of the ultra-rich. Was this VIP completely out of his mind? Dropping three hundred million on a raggedy regional branch just so he could act as Giselle's personal chauffeur?

"Giselle, maybe we should just accept our fate?" Chloe suggested, trying to suppress her shock. "If we cancel and try to find another driver, it'll probably take forever anyway."

Giselle rubbed her temples. "Let's just go."

A faint smile graced Hank's lips as he followed her downstairs, his mood soaring.
