Leo knew that ever since Rowan started bringing Jasmine around, Lyra had distanced herself from their group.

But he had nothing against Lyra. Honestly, he felt bad for her. She was a beautiful girl who had spent years chasing Rowan, doing everything in her power to win him over, only to have her best friend snatch him away.

After he spoke, the others scrolled through their phones, checking out the news about Lyra. Lucas frowned when he saw a sleazy comment saying, “I could play with those legs for a lifetime.”

Rowan was drinking quietly when Leo shoved his phone in his face. “Look, Rowan. The internet usually rips us to shreds, but for once, they’re actually being nice.”

Rowan cast a brief glance at the screen.

The photo showed the girl facing away from the camera, talking to the officer. She wore a cropped tweed jacket, her luminous, stunning legs on full display.

Rowan merely looked for a second before indifferently looking away.

Unable to read his mood, Leo tried to smooth things over. “Rowan, it’s been a while since Lyra hung out with us. Can we invite her over today?”

Rowan lifted his gaze slowly. “Did I ever say she couldn’t come?”

Everyone froze.

Lyra had been back home for a while now, yet she hadn’t attended a single one of their gatherings. They all assumed Rowan had banned her from coming.

They figured Rowan just wanted to avoid any drama between Lyra and Jasmine.

It never crossed their minds that Lyra was the one choosing to stay away.

Lucas, lounging on the adjacent sofa, paused at the revelation.

“I’ll give her a call,” Leo offered quickly. He started to stand up, then thought better of it and sat back down.

It was just a quick phone call, no need to step out for privacy.

Leo found Lyra’s contact and put her on speakerphone.

“Leo…” Lyra’s clear voice came through, sounding surprisingly upbeat, as if her recent troubles hadn’t fazed her at all.

“Hey Lyra, we’re all at the usual spot today. You want to come over?”

More importantly, Jasmine isn’t here, Leo added silently in his head.

Leo awkwardly pocketed his phone.

Lucas pulled his arm back from his girlfriend’s shoulders, letting out a mocking laugh. “How long is she going to play hard to get? Like anyone gives a damn if she shows up or not!”

Rowan remained completely silent.

Waylon took a slow sip of his drink.

Leo tried to defend her. “She just started working. She really is busy.”

“Funny, I just got a call saying she threw a massive tantrum on her first day and her dad kicked her out of the company.”

Lucas’s girlfriend let out a soft laugh at that.

Lucas scoffed. “If she managed to piss off a dad who spoils her rotten, you can imagine how unhinged she was being.”

“If no one gives her a reality check and leaves her in the cold, she’s going to act like a spoiled princess forever.”

Leo stayed quiet, at a loss for how to defend her any further.
