She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 24

Chapter 24

Luckily, Waylon changed the subject, and the group’s attention quickly shifted elsewhere.

At the Fairchild residence, dinner was a quiet affair, with no one bringing up the drama at the office.

The atmosphere was much tenser than usual.

Arthur was stern and tight-lipped, while Lyra kept her eyes on her plate, equally silent.

After dinner, Arthur headed out.

Lyra was surprised when Leo showed up looking for her.

She turned to Delilah. “Mom, Leo is here. I’m going to step out for a bit.”

Knowing the two had been friends for a long time, Delilah easily agreed. “Go ahead.”

Lyra walked outside to find Leo’s flashy sports car waiting.

Seeing her, Leo leaned against the door and waved.

“What brings you here today?” Lyra asked as she slipped into the passenger seat.

Leo started the engine. “Lyra, how long has it been since you actually went out and had fun?”

“Work has been keeping me busy.”

Leo let out a sigh.

He knew the work excuse was just a front. Lucas had already told everyone her dad had sent her home, leaving her jobless.

Which meant Lyra was about to become a full-time homebody, just like him.

“Lyra… you’ve been acting really strange lately.”

There were things Leo just couldn’t wrap his head around. “Especially with Rowan. You’ve been after him for years. Couldn’t you just hold out a little longer? Rowan is going to settle down eventually, and his family will pressure him to marry. You fought your way to the top of the mountain only to give up and hand him over to Jasmine. Don’t you think that’s a waste?”

“You know how miserable I was chasing him, right?”

Lyra rested her arm on the window, the biting wind helping to clear her thoughts. “So I’m done.”

“Besides, I already told his family I have feelings for Caspian now.”

“Leo, are you planning on getting into the used car business?”

“How did you know?” Leo hadn’t even told his dad about his plans. How on earth did Lyra find out?

“I highly suggest you reconsider…”

“No way. I need to prove to my grandpa that I’m just as capable as Lucas! He treats Lucas and Rowan like they walk on water, and treats me like… ugh. I have to make a name for myself. I need to show him he’s wrong about me.”

Your grandpa isn’t wrong.

Lyra lowered her eyes, hesitant to say it outright. “If you insist on doing it… there’s going to be a massive hailstorm after the holidays. Do not leave those cars parked outside.”

“Are you joking? We barely even get snow here, let alone hail!”

Lyra choked on her words.

That was all she could say.

Whether he listened to her or not was entirely up to fate.
