She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 25

Chapter 25

They drove aimlessly for a while before Lyra suddenly asked Leo to take a detour toward the east side of Glass Lake.

Fairchild Holdings’ main factory was located near Glass Lake, its lights still blazing brightly at seven in the evening.

“Is that your family’s factory?”

Leo knew Fairchild Holdings’ corporate headquarters was downtown, while the sprawling manufacturing plant was located in the suburbs.

Since Lyra specifically wanted to drive this way, it had to be their factory.

Lyra nodded. “There are thirty thousand workers in there.”

With the holidays approaching, everyone was working overtime to rush out the final batch of exports before heading back to their hometowns.

Lyra didn’t go inside. The security guard noticed a car parked nearby, but since he didn’t recognize the vehicle, he didn’t come out to investigate.

Lyra just sat outside, silently watching. She could hear the hum of machinery, the rhythmic, mechanical sounds feeling strangely comforting.

In her past life, the company had laid off all these workers, sold the factory, and scrapped the machinery for pennies.

Caleb had kept a few machines, clinging to the delusional hope that he could rebuild from scratch just like their grandfather had.

But there were no miracles. Luck never smiled on the Fairchild family again…

“They work so hard,” Leo murmured, exhaling a puff of white smoke.

Lyra nodded. She had no idea where those thirty thousand workers had ended up in her past life.

Ultimately, it was Fairchild Holdings’ failure that had ruined them.

They hadn’t even received their final few months’ wages.

The workers had gritted their teeth and stayed, believing a factory that massive couldn’t possibly go under. But it did, and the Fairchild family had let them all down.

Lyra pulled her jacket tighter, trying to ward off the deep chill settling into her bones.

“Leo… what am I supposed to do?”

“I can’t even convince my own dad.”

She was completely powerless, unable to even fire a handful of people.

Those executives were seasoned veterans. Some were family friends, and others had been with the company since its inception.

He couldn’t justify firing loyal employees on his daughter’s whim without a valid reason.

“Lyra, I built this company from nothing, and I’ve lived my life with integrity. I refuse to be labeled an ungrateful boss in my old age. Those twenty people haven’t done anything wrong. If I listened to you and fired them just because you asked, how would the rest of the company look at me?”

“Running a business isn’t a game. You can’t just fire people for no reason.”

As much as Arthur spoiled her, he firmly decided he couldn’t let her have her way this time.

Lyra pulled back, looking up at him. “Dad, give me one more chance. I’ll prove it to you.”

Without another word, she turned and walked away.

Arthur watched her head upstairs, letting out a heavy sigh.

When Lyra woke up the next morning, she stayed home, seemingly doing nothing. But she had already made up her mind. The rumors claimed she fired them to save on bonuses, so she would wait until after the holidays while secretly gathering evidence. If those executives were willing to betray Fairchild Holdings for Rowan, they were definitely involved in other shady dealings. She refused to believe their hands were clean.

Worried that he had been too harsh the night before and crushed her spirit, Arthur spoke to Caleb.
