She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 559

Victoria Jameson arrived at Blackwood Manor. Seeing her eldest son looking so utterly devastated, she immediately pressed him for answers. "Where have you been running around all afternoon? Have you even gone to the hospital yet?"

"The hospital?"

Victoria frowned. "Jasmine Ford was in a car crash. Don't tell me the groom-to-be has no idea? You rushed out of the press conference in such a hurry, everyone assumed you were going to see Jasmine."

The groom-to-be?

Rowan pressed his lips into a thin line. Jasmine was nothing more than a pawn, a tool he used to provoke Lyra Fairchild and force her to come running back into his arms. But now that Lyra had gone so far as to terminate her pregnancy, Jasmine had entirely lost her usefulness.

He suddenly spoke, his voice low. "Is modern medicine really that backward? Does it take a long time to detect a pregnancy?"

Victoria looked at him in confusion. "It takes at least a week to get a positive test. Why are you suddenly asking about this? Shouldn't you be worried about Jasmine right now?"

A week.

The words exploded in Rowan's mind. From the moment he had stepped away from her that night to the time she was examined at the hospital the next day, barely seven hours had passed. It would have been physically impossible to detect a pregnancy.

"It was my fault."

"All my fault."

Rowan muttered, lost in a suffocating wave of despair.

A flicker of unease crossed Victoria's mind as she listened to her son's distressed whispers, but she didn't read too deeply into it. "You don't need to blame yourself too much. I've already cut off all funding for your brother. He can barely afford to eat right now, so he won't be causing any more trouble. Just focus on taking care of Jasmine from now on."

"The Ford family is asking to postpone the wedding."

"Think it over carefully."

The hour was growing late, and her driver was waiting downstairs, so Victoria didn't stay much longer.

After she left, Rowan pulled out his phone. He dialed a number he hadn't contacted in ages, calling Lucas Chavez, who was far away from Seaborne City.

When the call connected, silence stretched between them.

After a long moment, Rowan leaned his head back, staring into the dark night, and finally broke the silence.
