Chapter 59
Chapter 59
“Jasmine, you must come over with Rowan more often. Treat this place like your own home.”
“I will, Vivienne.” Jasmine was wearing a light purple cheongsam that accentuated her elegant grace.
“That’s wonderful,” Vivienne said, rarely one to offer compliments. She turned to Rowan. “Girls as exceptional as Jasmine are one in a million. You need to treat her right, Rowan.”
“As for your grandfather-I’ll put in a good word for you.”
Rowan gave a slight nod. “Thank you for the trouble, Aunt Vivienne.”
That single sentence left Vivienne and Mr. Sutton feeling a whirlwind of emotions.
Their proud nephew had never asked for a favor before. It was clear he was incredibly serious about
Jasmine.
Mr. Sutton laughed. “Rowan, I never thought I’d see the day.”
Hiding in the shadows, Lyra thought to herself, “Did he really need Vivienne to convince Old Mr. Jameson?”
Arthur Fairchild was already wavering and would agree soon enough. The Fairchild family would be the ones to break off the engagement anyway.
Rowan’s efforts were completely unnecessary.
He probably just couldn’t wait another second.
Just as she was lost in thought, the wrought-iron gates swung open. Rowan’s sleek black luxury car rolled out slowly, prompting Lyra to shrink further behind the foliage.
She only stepped out once Rowan’s car was completely out of sight.
Lyra didn’t see Maisie anywhere, concluding that the girl wasn’t home. Otherwise, with VIP guests around-especially her idol, Jasmine-Maisie would have definitely come out to see them off. Thinking this, Lyra decided not to go inside. She walked back to her car and reached for the door
handle.
“Lyra Fairchild…” To her surprise, Vivienne had spotted her and was marching out of the gates.
“I can’t believe you stooped to stalking and spying. You followed Rowan and the others all the way here? Where is your dignity? Is this how Arthur raised you?”
“You’re too young to be acting like a stalker. You’re dragging your parents’ names through the mud.”
Lyra had originally planned to ignore Vivienne, but insulting her while dragging her parents into it struck a nerve.
“Old Mr. Jameson is such an honorable man, yet look how you turned out…” Lyra shrugged, leaving
the rest unsaid.
“You-”
Vivienne exploded in fury! As the daughter of Seaborne City’s top family, and having married into the

equally wealthy Sutton family, people constantly tripped over themselves to flatter her. Even the old Lyra used to be as meek as a kitten in her presence.
But now that her marriage to Rowan was falling apart, was she just giving up? Did she realize she couldn’t compete with Jasmine and decided to just burn every bridge?
Fine!
Lyra wasn’t the only one who could play without rules.
Maybe in the past, Vivienne would have held back, worrying that Rowan might actually marry Lyra, making her his official wife. But now, Vivienne had absolutely nothing to fear.
“I can’t believe you’d disrespect an elder like this. I’m going to teach you a lesson on Arthur’s behalf today.” Vivienne raised her hand, aiming a sharp slap at Lyra’s face.
But Lyra’s reflexes were faster, her hand shooting up to catch Vivienne’s wrist in a vise grip.
With a cold scoff, Lyra shoved Vivienne’s hand away. “Is this how Old Mr. Jameson taught you to behave, Vivienne?”
In her past life, after she married into the Jameson family, Vivienne had slapped her on multiple occasions. Because she had gotten pregnant without taking her medication, everyone assumed the baby was a bastard. She had explained countless times that the child was Rowan’s, but no one believed her. Vivienne had constantly verbally abused and ostracized her, calling her a disgrace.
Later, after Maisie’s tragedy, Vivienne rarely showed her face. But the few times they crossed paths, she would tear into Lyra again to vent her own buried grief.
Once, Vivienne had outright thrown a glass of water in her face, shattering the glass in public to
humiliate her.
“You’re the reason the Jameson family knows no peace. You’re a walking curse.”
In this life, Lyra wasn’t going to let Vivienne push her around!
The force of Lyra’s shove made Vivienne stumble back a few steps. She ground her teeth in pure rage. Realizing physical intimidation wouldn’t work, she switched to psychological warfare:
“Rowan has already decided to give up his thirty percent share for Jasmine.”
“He would rather forfeit his stake in Jameson Holdings than give up Jasmine. No matter what Rowan will never spare you a second glance.”
Lyra couldn’t be bothered to engage. “Whatever.”
She was here to see Maisie.
She had zero interest in defending herself against Vivienne’s bitter taunts.
