Chapter 60
Chapter 60
Lyra let a smirk touch the corner of her lips. “Instead of policing my life, maybe you should spend that time making sure your daughter isn’t hanging out with the wrong crowd…”
With that, Lyra slipped into the driver’s seat and pulled the door shut.
She had never spoken to a member of the Jameson family in such a dismissive tone.
Vivienne’s face drained of color. “Wow, feeling brave, aren’t we? I heard you joined Fairchild Holdings, but you haven’t even achieved anything yet, and your ego is already through the roof. There’s a reason. Rowan doesn’t like you-you’re just not worth it.”
Vivienne was practically vibrating with rage. She never expected the usually subservient Lyra to act so impossibly arrogant!
While Vivienne continued her rapid-fire tirade, Lyra started the engine and drove off.
Vivienne tried to chase after the car to hurl more insults but was stopped by Mr. Sutton, who had come back out and frowningly called her inside.
As Lyra hit the gas, there was a fleeting moment where she thought about leaving Maisie to her fate.
If she let things play out, that girl in the blue dress would still be hovering around Maisie, and Maisie would end up disfigured all the same. Anyway, the Sutton family had the money to hire armies of specialists to heal her and fade the scars…
“Don’t interfere with other people’s destinies. Just take care of yourself.”
Lyra kept driving toward home, but as she hit the next intersection, she abruptly cranked the steering wheel, pulling a hard U-turn.
After Maisie’s accident in the past, Lyra had visited her a few times. The poor girl had refused to eat or drink, shattering every mirror in the house. Remembering the teenager’s suffocating despair, Lyra let out a heavy sigh.
Fine. She would help her this one last time.
After this, they were done with each other.
Lyra gave Caspian a call.
Learning that Maisie was currently at Atlantic University, she asked the security guard at the gate to call her dorm.
“Your sister is at the guardhouse.” The message was relayed to the dorm room.
Maisie genuinely thought Jasmine had come to see her. She knew Jasmine was at the Sutton Residence today and figured she had swung by the campus afterward. Thrilled, she sprinted to the gate, not bothering to wonder why Jasmine would call the dorm instead of her cell phone.
When she burst out of the campus gates and saw Lyra standing there, her face instantly dropped.
“Why is it you? Calling yourself my sister-do you have no shame?”

Chapter 60
Maisie spun on her heel to leave, but Lyra blocked her path. “I need to talk to you.”
Maisie crossed her arms. “I have something to say to you, too. My cousin brought Jasmine to my house today. The next step is bringing her to the main Jameson estate. You are never going to have a chance.”
“I know,” Lyra replied evenly.
“Jasmine is gentle and sweet. She isn’t like you, running to my aunt and uncle to complain when my cousin ignores you.” Maisie rolled her eyes. “Begging me isn’t going to help. If you’re trying to use me to get to him, I suggest you stop wasting your time.”
Like mother, like daughter.
If Lyra had a shorter temper, she would have walked away right then and let the girl’s face get ruined. Honestly, Maisie’s unfiltered, obnoxious mouth was probably what pushed that classmate to commit a crime in the first place.
Whatever.
She wasn’t doing this for Maisie. She was doing it for Maisie’s classmate.
In the previous life, that girl was expelled, and her parents were slapped and forced to grovel and beg for mercy. Vivienne had completely destroyed their family…
“I’m not here because of Rowan.”
“Then is it about Caspian?” Maisie demanded.
“I want you to stop messing with him. He’s innocent in all this. Have a shred of decency-don’t use every dirty trick in the book just to marry into the Jameson family.”
Maisie would never dare confront her oldest cousin, Rowan; one look from him was enough to make her shake. But she was close to Caspian, and right now, she was purely sticking up for him. Caspian had always been too nice, and Lyra was taking advantage of that by targeting him now. Maisie saw Lyra as a bully who picked on the weak, and she was determined to defend her cousin!
Lyra stared at Maisie. “Is this how you talk to your classmates, too?”
Maisie paused.
She quickly recovered, her face twisting into a mocking sneer. “Cat got your tongue? Are you scared?”
Lyra met her gaze with absolute icy calm…
“Tomorrow is your birthday?”
Maisie froze, assuming Lyra was trying to suck up to her again. “I’m not inviting you to my party,” she snapped in irritation.
Lyra opened her mouth to reply, but Maisie’s phone started ringing.
Seeing the caller ID, her face lit up, and she eagerly answered, “Jasmine!”
