Chapter 69
Chapter 69
The next afternoon, Arthur Fairchild arranged a business lunch with several key suppliers.
Remembering how these very suppliers had betrayed their family in her past life, Lyra wanted to identify the ringleaders. Cutting ties with them early in this timeline would be highly beneficial for Fairchild Holdings.
So, she insisted on joining the lunch.
“Dad, I want to come with you.”
Arthur rarely had the chance to take his daughter to business meals. She used to spend all her free time chasing after Rowan and Lucas, showing zero interest in dining with a bunch of older executives. He smiled warmly. “Alright, as long as you promise you won’t be bored.”
During the meal, however, Lyra didn’t spot any of the eventual traitors.
Still, the lunch was surprisingly pleasant and relaxed.
Halfway through, she excused herself to use the restroom. The moment she stepped out into the hallway, she ran straight into Lucas.
The second he saw her, his face flushed with irritation. “Done pretending? You actually stalked him all the way here?”
“You have absolutely no shame, Lyra. Rowan booked a lunch at this restaurant and explicitly left you off the invite list, yet here you are crashing it.”
Lucas was always so quick to jump to the worst possible conclusions about her.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Lyra frowned, not having the energy to entertain his delusions.
She turned to walk away.
Lucas blocked her path. “Rowan and Jasmine are officially together now. You’re too late.”
“If you try to wedge yourself between them, you’re nothing but a homewrecker.”
So, Rowan and Jasmine were dining here too.
Lyra’s expression darkened with annoyance. She stayed silent for a moment before snapping back, “If you guys are so paranoid about people breathing the same air as you, you should have bought out the entire restaurant! Since you didn’t, what gives you the right to dictate where I eat?”
If his whole goal was just to keep her away from them, he didn’t even need to ask; she’d gladly steer
clear on her own.
“I’m going straight back to my private dining room and I won’t step out again. Now move.”
Lucas blinked, caught off guard by how easily she was yielding.
As Lyra tried to step past him, Lucas reached out to grab her arm, barking, “What kind of game are you playing now?”

Lyra took a sharp step back, dodging his hand with visible repulsion. The pure disgust in her eyes was impossible to miss.
Lucas grit his teeth. “Lyra-”
Before he could finish, Arthur stepped out into the corridor, looking for his daughter. “What’s taking so long, sweetheart?”
Lucas froze. He hadn’t expected the Chairman of Fairchild Holdings to be here. He immediately dropped his hand.
So she really had just come here with her dad?
Straightening his posture, Lucas plastered on a polite, respectful smile. “Mr. Fairchild.”
Arthur nodded in acknowledgment, recognizing the young Chavez heir. “Lucas. Have you eaten yet? You’re welcome to join us if you haven’t.”
“No, thank you, sir. I’m actually having lunch with a friend in the next room.” Lucas didn’t dare mention Rowan’s name. Given the tension between the two families, if Arthur found out Rowan was next door, he might walk over to say hello.
And that would be a disaster.
Because Jasmine was sitting right next to him.
Lucas threw Lyra a desperate, warning glare, silently begging her not to say a word.
Lyra treated him like thin air.
“Let’s head back inside, Dad,” she said softly, stepping closer to Arthur. She truly couldn’t care less whether Rowan was in the building or not.
Arthur gave Lucas a final, polite nod before escorting his daughter back to their table.
The moment the door shut behind them, Lucas practically sprinted back to his own private dining
room.
Inside, Rowan was casually serving Jasmine a choice cut of meat. Lucas leaned in close and lowered his voice. “Arthur and Lyra are eating right down the hall.”
Rowan didn’t even lift his gaze from his plate.
Jasmine’s face, however, paled slightly as she shot an anxious look toward the closed door.
“If we end up running into them, do you think this is going to get back to Alistair?” Lucas asked nervously.
“Whatever.” Rowan finally looked up, his expression unreadable as he took a slow sip of his wine.
