Chapter 101
“Is your dad gonna approve?” She asks.
“Does it matter? I’m the one who’s gonna get married. Plus, trust fund boys don’t look that good anymore. Men like Harvey are the the eye candy for the season. It’s what everyone wants now.”
The girls burst out laughing.
It’s weird because they all used to talk about trust fund boys…thats why Nisha even started dating Baxter in the first place. So the girls would find her perfect for their group. So she’d fit in and now they like gangsters? Now they want men who look like they have bodies buried?
“Plus, Jennifer is really beautiful.” Alina continues, ignoring Nish’s internal spiral. “She’s got that baby face. You would think a dude like Harvey likes bad girls with tattoos, edge, you know? But she looks so innocent. Like butter wouldn’t melt. Ugh. they are so cute.”
The girls all aww together.
“I bet he’s insane in bed though.” Lori stirs her tea with a smirk. “Men like that don’t do gentle. They do possession. Imagine those hands gripping those little hips as he fucks her.”
“Imagine that voice telling her exactly what’s gonna happen when they get home.”
“Stop!” Alina giggles, but she’s leaning into it.
“Bet he has her against every wall in that house.” Another girl adds. “Quiet in public, animal in private. You can just tell by how he moves.”
“The way he looked at her in those photos?” Lori fans herself. “That’s the kind of man who remembers what you like and makes you beg for it anyway.”
“While these corporate boys are asking what we want for dinner he’s telling her exactly how he’s going to take her apart later. In detail. With eye contact.” Alina sighs dreamily.’
”
Nisha drops her glass.
“Can we talk about something else? This is getting boring.”
The girls exchange looks that says someone’s jealous. That look at says we know something you don’t want us to know.
“Oh, Nisha. Don’t worry. I’m sure Baxter has his… qualities.”
The laughter that follows is meaner this time.
Nisha feels her face heat. She wants to scream because she chose the wrong Prescott
“Give me a moment, girls” Nisha says, getting ready to stand.
Alina looks at her. “Are you not gonna give us a tour of your roo
“What?”
“Yeah, show us what your room looks like.” Lori says.
She’s the one in the group who will stop at nothing to find a crack in Nisha’s lifestyle. The lie detector. The one who asks the questions nobody wants to answer. “You’re not staying in the guest house, are you? I mean, that would be weird for a daughter-in-law.”

“Come on. She said Baxter has a large share in the company. Plus why would a daughter-in-law be in the guest house? I’m sure her room is the prettiest. Right?”
Nisha thinks twice.
If she fails to show them this, the girls will gossip later.
But if she shows them Jennifer’s room? It would Jennifer isn’t around. From what she’s heard from the housekeepers, Jennifer stayed in Harvey’s room last night anyway.
w their mind. And what’s stopping her right now from saying it’s hers?
The master suite.
“Come on, girls.” Nisha says, nonchalant, like she hasn’t been sweating for the last thirty seconds.
They all get up, grabbing their bags and fixing their hair.
The house unfolds around them as they walk marble floors that stretch forever, ceilings high enough to echo, art on every wall that probably costs more than combined trust funds.
Finally, they reach the room.
Nisha pushes the door open and watches their faces go Ballistic.
Alina’s mouth drops open. Lori stops walking. The other girls gasp like they’ve seen a miracle. The room is so beautiful with a bed the size of a small country and a headboard that looks hand-carved. A vanity that belongs in a palace. A sitting area with velvet couches. A closet that’s basically another room, filled with things Nisha can’t even name. Fresh roses on every surface with art on the walls that looks museum-quality.
Even Nisha is shocked.
Inside, she’s hurt. Actually hurt.
She’s been staying in the guest house and this is what Jennifer gets? Jennifer who wasn’t even competing with her? Jennifer who stumbled into this life by accident!? Jennifer gets this!?
Alina’s dad is a minister and even she looks bewildered.
The girls immediately start taking pictures.
“Guys, so I’m in Nisha’s bedroom!” Alina says, already live on Instagram where the comments start flooding in.
