“I saw the panties and it just…” I trail off, trying to explain to Tina. “It just flashed in my mind. That whole scene with the strippers, and everything everyone says about him. I… he must fel so bad that I believed he’d cheat on me, even for a

second.”

“Oh, shit!” Tinka breathes, leaning against my desk.

“How do you think I can make it up to him?”

“But didn’t he say it was already alright?”

“Yeah, but I still feel pretty bad. Of course Harvey would say tha He was injured, probably exhausted, and didn’t want to drag it out. It’s like… am I ever going to escape Nisha and her stupidity? I swear, the next time I see her, I’m going to pull her hair. And punch her.” I fold my arms, fuming just thinking about.

“Right on your heel.” Tinka agrees fiercely. She throws a mild “I to Brooke, who just passes by our open office door. Tinka’s gaze sharpens as she turns back to me. “Is it me, or did that bitch just roll her eyes at me?”

“You know she’s always gonna roll her eyes at you,” I chuckle, looking around my chaotic office. Work is back in full swing, and we’re in full setup mode since we’re getting new clients every day. I’ve even got a little renovation going for my styling room and the “communication office” which is just a fancy name for where the stylists chat with clients before they start working.

“Ugh! Is that how she was in Italy? Did she even have any fun?” Tinka picks up a stray fabric swatch.

“I don’t know, Tinks. I wasn’t watching anything she was doing in Italy; I was minding my own business.”

“Or minding the business of Harvey, huh, hun?” she teases, wiggling her eyebrows.

I just cross my eyes at her and flip open the first file on my desk.

The door swings open suddenly, and there’s Jenna, wrapped in this gorgeous, rich red colored coat. Tinka looks at her and before I can even explain who she is, Jenna opens her arms and comes in for a hug.

“Hi, Jenna!” I smile, hugging her back.

“I’m sorry, did I get you at a bad time?”

“Of course not!”

“Introduce me.” Tinka says, not one to be left out.

“This is Tinka, my best friend.”

“Apart from Harvey?” Jenna asks lightly.

I blink. How does she know Harvey and I used to be best friends I mean, we’re more than that now, but still.

“How do you know she and Harvey used to be besties?” Tinka as, voicing my exact thought

“Baxter said so.”

“Oh,” I say. That answers the question for me, too. “So, what are you doing here?”

“Oh, I can tell you guys are booked and busy” she says, her eyes king in the stacked boxes and organized chaos of my

She gestures vaguely toward the storage boxes and the workers outside who are putting up our new signage.

“Thank you for noticing that,” I say with a little pride in my chest “We’re actually not quite open yet. We’re just setting everything up for the new season’s clients.”

“Oh, I wasn’t coming for business yet. I just wanted to congratulate you on your win.”

“Thanks! Um, should I get you a drink? A cookie? Ma bakes the best cookies-her mom has a store down the street, and we get them fresh.”

“I would love some.”

I wink at Tinka before going to fill a mug with coffee from the fancy machine. When I turn back, the workers outside are putting the finishing touches on the sign, and the whole storefront is already looking luxuriously different from the bare- bones place we left before Italy.

I bring the coffee and a warm cookie over to the sitting area just as Tinka comes back in, now fiddling with hanging some art pieces on my wall.

“Thank you” Jenna says as I set the little plate down.

“You like flowers?” she asks, nodding at the various plants scattered around my office.

“Oh, you noticed.” I say, crossing my legs. Of course she’d figure it… a total plant mom. They’re everywhere.

“If she didn’t notice, I’d think she was blind.” Tinka calls over her shoulder, focused on getting a frame straight.

Just then, there’s a knock on the glass window of my office. A delivery person is standing there, holding the biggest, most enormous bouquet of flowers I’ve ever seen.

Tinka hops off her stool and goes to open the door. “Yes?”

“Flowers for Miss Jennifer. From Kings Casino.”

The moment I hear ‘Kings Casino, my eyes snap up. That’s Harvey. My heart does a little flip. I pay full attention as Tinka takes the massive arrangement…it’s a burst of color, all pretty little shades of yellow, orange, pink, blue, and red… Oh my goodness. And they’re all real.

I blush, putting my hand over my mouth as I get up to go look at it. It’s stunning. Absolutely, ridiculously stunning.

“OMG, you were just here sulking over what you said to him, and he’s sending you flowers. Oh, dear.” Tinka says, as I fumble to grab the huge bouquet and sign the delivery slip.

“I’ll make sure they never die.” I murmur, already mentally planing their care routine.

“Plants die all the time.” Jenna says in an oddly flat tone.

I look over at her, a little taken aback. She just smiles and adds, eep them in your heart, it won’t die there.” I nod, but for a second there, I totally thought she was about to be super evil.

“You’re gonna need some extra mud pots for that one,” Tinka laughs before ducking out of the room. I fix the bouquet in the centre of my table and just stare at it, smiling so hard my checkstart to ache

“Are you his first girlfriend?”

Jenna’s question from behind me is so sudden it makes me jung I’d completely forgotten she was still here, lost in the thoughtfulness of the flowers. I turn back to her now but I don’t actually know the answer.
