Jenna.

“What are you doing here?” Harvey gruffs at me.

He’s wearing a black, baggy hoodie and matching sweatpants, looking more like a shadow than a man. A brown paper bag is in one powerful hand is probably takeout…for her, no doubt.

“Oh no! She lives here!?” I put on my best shocked face, pressing a hand to my chest. But between him and me, I already warned him he’d be seeing me again. The problem is, as he stalks closer, I realize he’s not here

to talk.

The veins in his neck stand out. His head tilts, making the tattoos along his jawline shift like living things. No…no. He’s furious. I’ve only seen this version of him once before, and it’s not something you forget. Instinct screams at me to retreat. I back up as fast as I can, my heart hammering against my ribs, until I’m safely across the door of my new apartment.

Harvey stops right in front of my open door. I swallow quickly, trying to read the storm in his eyes. The anger that’s in every line of his face, in the tight set of his brows. Now he understands what I meant when I said we’d see each other again.

But instead of crossing the line, he just slams my door. I flinch, shutting my eyes as it swings shut with a thud.

I let out the breath I was holding and my hand presses to my chest where it actually aches. A few seconds later, the door opens again but it’s just one of the movers, bringing in another box.

Once they’re finally done and I’m alone in the sea of scattered boxes, I take a moment. I think about my grand plan. I replay the look on Harvey’s face. Then, I get up and start the next phase.

The only reason I’m here is because I’ve been tracking him. I saw him enter the penthouse building right after Jennifer left for work. I realized he was trying to stay close, to worm his way back which was why he was speaking to the housing management. If that happened, everything we just shattered would be repaired. So, when I heard there was one more penthouse available, I made sure I got it. A simple, threatening message from one of Reign’s gang boys to the girl next on the waiting list was all it took.

She backed off, and I swept in.

Now, for the next move.

“Hi, Nisha?” I smile brightly into the phone, as if she can see me. I pour myself a generous glass of wine at the kitchen island.

I was at her pathetic wedding. I saw the whole disaster. When I hung out with Nisha before, she couldn’t stop bragging about becoming the next Mrs. Prescott. Instead, she ended up married to a disowned son, thanks to my brother. So while the world might think she’s living a fairy tale, I know the truth.

She’s back at her parents’ place, or some sad apartment. Baxter doesn’t even have a proper place to stay right now since his father pulled the plug. How could she?

Therefore. I’m throwing her a rope. I know she’ll grab it.

“Hi, wifey! Don’t tell me you’ve been too busy with your new family to check up on your friends?” I pout playfully, swirling my wine.

“Ugh, my mother-in-law has been dragging me everywhere to meet her friends in these exclusive settings. You know how it is… Tell me, how have you been? I heard you left for New York.”

Look at that…lies.

“Yeah, I’m in New York now. My brother’s opening a club, so I’m just here to chill… plus, my mom is here, too. Which is why I called you in the first place. There’s a soiree my mom is making me attend this Saturday. Really exclusive. Do you think you’d be available?”

“Of course!” Her voice perks up immediately.

“Good. My dress is being made by the De Claire team-”

“Jennifer’s team?” Nisha cuts in.

“Yeah, Jennifer’s.” I say smoothly.

I can almost hear her sneer through the phone. “I bet that bitch is happy my wedding got ruined.”

She says it, forgetting for a second who she’s talking to.

“Um, I mean…” she backtracks quickly.

“I don’t think Jennifer is thinking about much of anything right now. I heard she and Harvey are over.”

Nisha gasps!

“No way. Why? What do you think happened?”

I take my glass and walk back to the sitting area as I speak.

“I’m just going to tell you the truth, Nisha. It’s because of me they broke up. Harvey is my ex-boyfriend.”

She gasps again, louder this time.

“You… and Harvey? How? How…freaking how!???”

“We dated back in Italy, when he first came to learn how to run the casino. Harvey didn’t tell her about me,

So…”

“Shit. That’s crazy.” Nisha chuckles, and I can hear the vicious pleasure in it. “Wait, isn’t that going to be awkward? If the De Clair team is working on your dress, Jennifer is the lead stylist.”

“Yeah,” I sigh, rolling my eyes over the phone as if I hadn’t intentionally used an anonymous email to book their service. This is exactly what I wanted. To put Jennifer in an impossible situation with me, where I can say and do things that will drive the wedge between her and Harvey even deeper. This is just the first part. Me

moving into his apartment building was step one. Imagine her having to work on a dress for me? She’ll probably want to die.

The best part is, she can’t even say no. I made sure that Alexa girl put a clause in the contract stating that if they change the lead stylist, they’d have to pay me double for all the outfits I’ve already commissioned. So, tough luck, Jennifer. It’s going to be a miserable week for you.
