Chapter 76

I stand in my new casino, directly across from the Kings Casino. I’ve heard Harvey is the top dog of this area, and he achieved it in such a short time too. The biggest casino in the center of Manhattan….not bad for someone who’s only been doing this for a year. But all over the city, I’ve been doing this since I was born. When your father is a Don, there are just some territories that belong to you by blood.

For the fight we have that’s unfinished, I’m using this to cool my temper. I want to take him out of business, and it’s nothing personal really. Business is business. But this one keeps me up at night.

I exhale smoke, watching his manager enter the building across the street. Just doing his routine double-check. Yeah, reporting for duty. I’m thinking of hiring his girls for my club. I hear the men in this city are astonished by them, so maybe I’ll offer a bigger price. My men are already handling that part of the work, meeting them a few miles from the casino to talk business.

Word reached me that he’s already pissed I beat him to this property. Someone in his establishment snitched to one of my boys that he wanted to buy this space, make it a VIP motel for customers who can’t drive home late. His casino runs until morning, and drunk folks can’t make it home at that hour. He would have made so much money from that deal, but I like to play games. So I put in more than the building is worth, just so he could lose.

“Boss.”

Rony emerges from my casino…which is called Emperor’s Casino, again just to play this spiteful game.

“The girl you asked us to keep watch on just left her studio.”

I turn sharply because I know he’s talking about Jennifer. Shit. The way I twisted my head only legitimizes what my sister said about me liking her. I don’t even know how she saw it or why she saw it in the first place, but it’s there.

I’m usually not the kind of guy to act on feelings, regardless. I’ve never thought one woman was different from another. To me, and where I come from, bitches are all the same. Maybe it’s because I’ve cracked every one of them.

I get on my bike and make my way to Jennifer’s studio. It’s only a few minutes from the casino because it’s a popular area, and most businesses drive in this district of the city. My helmet on when I spot her car making its way out. I follow behind, watching the time to see how long before her engine starts overheating.

Whoever was watching her for me did exactly what I asked. I need something to slow her down.

For her own sake, she gives me some kind of attention because I have no idea how long I can stop my sister from coming after her. I’ve tried talking to my dad about the stupid marriage he wants to put Jenna in, but he literally refuses. That’s the culture in our world. We use marriages as steps to power. It’s the way we remain a powerful family.

Do I think it’s fitting to have Harvey as a brother-in-law? Fucking no. But if this goes on like this, Jenna isn’t going to spare Jennifer. I’ve seen her use acid. I’ve seen her use fire. And Jennifer doesn’t deserve that. This morning, Jenna already called me weeping about some power outage she ruined, about Jennifer going to Harvey’s place, and more things I didn’t think could register because I was sleeping.

Finally, Jennifer’s car starts coughing. I watch her step out. The whole engine is sizzling…deliciously, I must say. She looks behind and forward, wondering what the hell is happening. The fire area is smoking too. From the corner of the road, I see her hand go down to smooth the very short skirt she’s wearing when she tries to look down.

She knows she can’t. The skirt is going to reveal everything. Buts the car gets hotter and she can’t seem to understand what to do, she goes on her knees in the gravel.

My throat gets stuck when I see her thighs as the wind batters against the skirt.

Crazy, because I have booty and boobs all around me in different scenes every day…yet I feel like I shouldn’t be seeing this. I

take off my helmet as she dips low. It’s obvious she’s struggling, pulling at the skirt over and over.

This is not what I had in mind when I decided to do this to her car.

I’m already seeing freckles.

I cross the road.

“What’s going on?” I ask, and perhaps she thinks I’m some kind of Good Samaritan on the road. She gets up from the ground in relief while the wind whips her hair in every direction

“I don’t know what the hell is happening. It’s smoking-”

That’s where she stops. When she realizes it’s me.

“I can help.” I move toward the car engine, but she grabs my hand before I can touch her vehicle.

Hmm. Soft hands. I see why Harvey would beat the shit out of me. If only the lights had been on that bloody day when she took her top off in front of me too.

“Get the hell away from me. She rolls her eyes and climbs back into her car for a moment.

“Your car is overheating. It’s even coming out of the tires. If I dont do something, it’s going to blow up in flames.”

“Yeah, right.” She starts dialing someone, but I think she remembers she’s not on good terms with her brother or her ex. So who’s she going to call?

“Jennifer.”

“Can you not say my name, please?”

“So you’re upset with me for telling you the truth about what your brother and your… ex were up to? Really?” I study her face. Really gorgeous this early morning, I have to say. Her hair is a mess of curls, her skin glowing in the rising sun, and those eyes….furious, beautiful eyes are fixed on me like she wants to set me on fire.

“Really, Reign? You sent a stalker after me. When that didn’t work because Harvey beat the shit out of you, you came with your wounded face to break it to me. You were interested in terrorizing me first. You didn’t come to tell me the truth. You came to break it.”

The way she talks, it hurts. You know? I’m not usually the type to get distorted by someone’s words, especially a woman’s. But she makes me feel so bad for that.

“My sister’s idea.” I admit.

“Yeah, that’s another reason I hate you. You’re Jenna’s brother!”

“Can I fix your car as an apology then? For everything I’ve done feel nervous at how she’s speaking to me. Girls usually fear me. They don’t just speak to me any way they like. Now that she’s doing it, it makes me feel naked.

“Walk away.

“Your car’s gonna burn.” My voice rises because how can one person be so damn stubborn?

She simply rolls her eyes and continues scrolling through her phone. I may lie about a number of things, but I swear…that’s not a lie. I asked my guys to plant something under the chassis, and if I don’t remove it, this whole vehicle is going up.

I pull her angrily toward me, forgetting to contain my temper. I want to make it clear who the fuck she’s talking to! It’s my ego thrashing at my brain at a girl who doesn’t listen. Girls from our world listen.
