Silence Reveals Hidden Answers’ by Michael Anderson novel Chapter 98

Chapter 98

Harvey Prescott.

“Harvey, you have thirty minutes before the next meeting.” Laura says as soon as I get up from the conference table.

The last two hours have been nothing but paperwork and signatures. Transfer documents. Ownership clauses. Board resolutions. And the big one…signing over interests to Jennifer as my wife.

There’s a percentage stated in the clause that the wife of a Prescott is meant to have. Standard stuff, old money traditions, all that bullshit but I know Jennifer. She is the type to not accept it, knowing that this family caused a whole load of trauma and the way we got married, she’d feel like she’s not entitled to any of it.

But for that exact reason, I don’t see anyone else that deserves the highest percentage in power after me. I believe it should be Jennifer. So I signed those off too and made it official. Made sure if anything happens to me, she’s protected. She’s set and untouchable.

“Okay, that won’t take time. I have to get to the casino-”

“No sir.” Laura cuts me off with that look she does. “Signing those documents is a lot at least you’d be here for thirty minutes… again.”

“What the fucking hell.” I groan and see Jen’s text light up my phone.

Are you almost done? They’re here. My MOM is here. Harvey please.

I text her back. “Coming.”

I walk out of the office as the lawyers leave to the guest area to go get ready for the next bid. My feet move fast through the corridors and the staff who step aside when they see me coming.

After I married their daughter without even asking for their blessings, I expect them to be furious.

Jennifer is crashing out because she doesn’t want to do it by herself so that explains her constant texting. I crack my neck a bit as I get closer to the dining area, rolling my shoulders, preparing for whatever Marie is about to throw at me.

The dining room is one of those long tables that could seat twenty easy. I see Jeremy, Jennifer’s brother in his chair looking amused at the whole situation. Jennifer’s dad….. Alex sits quietly, observing…I’ve noticed he’s the kind of man who speaks little but notices everything.

Jennifer’s mom is sitting next to Alex, straight-backed and dressed like she’s about to attend a gala instead of breakfast with her new son-in-law. She’s an expensive firecracker, that one. Elegant and dangerous. I see where Jennifer gets it from.

Jennifer is standing at the table in a dangly dress….it’s something light and flowy that moves when she talks, showing off her shoulders, making her look soft and beautiful while she’s clearly stressing. She’s explaining something to them when Jeremy nudges her and she looks back at me.

“Hey.” I say.

She almost glares at me for being late.

“Oh, there’s the groom.” Marie makes that remark and I don’t even know where to start.

I sit next to Jennifer, close enough that our shoulders almost touch.

“I was just telling them that…” Tinka clears her throat and I didn’t even know she was here. “That despite how it happened,

you and Jennifer are really in love.”

“Let him explain that himself.” Marie says, eyes locked on me like she’s waiting for me to make a single mistak

“Oh and let Jen explain how you’re the only one she’s forgiven-”

“Because you were the mastermind behind all of this!” Jennifer squeals at Jeremy as quick as she

“How good of a seducing person is this boy to you? Did I not tell you to close your legs at all times?”

“Mom, don’t say that… Jennifer cover her face.

“He must be so good because the daughter I know would think twice before saying yes to a man she’s about to marry.

“You don’t even know that it’s Harvey that tried to stop this-”

“Sir… Ma’am.” I hold Jennifer’s hand on the table when I feel her voice start to shake before she’s about to reply. She’s about to cry or yell or both and I’m not letting that happen.

Jennifer’s dad doesn’t talk much but ever since what happened, I’ve been visiting him at his new convenience store and we’ve been having conversations. Real ones…man to man.

“Call me Alex, please.” He says quietly.

I nod.

Then I turn to Marie.

“You better call me ma’am.” Her eyes narrow but there’s something playful underneath. “Plus, I don’t see your stepmother here. We actually attend the same golf club. Also, just because I asked you to take Jennifer home doesn’t mean I asked you to bring her home to the Prescott estate. Do you think my daughter is for sale?”

“There is no amount in the world that could buy Jennifer to be with me.” I say it straight, looking her dead in the eye. “Mrs. Marie, I’ve wanted your daughter since high school. Not in some passing crush way…..I mean she was the only thing I thought about when I was in the military, the only face I saw when I closed my eyes during the worst moments of my life. When I disappeared, I never stopped loving her. When I came back, I never stopped chasing her.”

I squeeze Jennifer’s hand on the table.

“Dating her was never going to be the end goal for me. Any serious man who knows what he wants doesn’t just date the woman he loves….he marries her. That’s what I did and I need you to trust me with her.”

Marie’s expression doesn’t change but she’s listening.

“I am faithful. I am loyal. I will think about her first in every decision I make for the rest of my life. When she’s scared, I’ll hold her. When she’s happy, I’ll celebrate her. When she’s angry, I’ll give her space and then I’ll come back and figure it out with her because that’s what husbands do. I need you to know something else.”

“I was willing to lose my seat as CEO of this company rather than fake a Mrs. Prescott and cast aside the woman I love. The shareholders could have taken everything from me and I still wouldn’t have chosen anyone but Jennifer.”,

The table is silent but Alex is the first to smile at me. He looks at Marie next and her expression is pale for a bit, then she blinks.

“So I’m asking for both your blessings. Please.”
