Chapter 46 When The Hunter Misjudges The Prey
They rushed to Ivana’s suburban villa as fast as they could.
When she saw so many people crowding her doorstep, Ivana nearly jumped. “What are you all doing here?”
“Aunt Ivana, where’s Evan?” Sylvie blurted out, panic overtaking her completely.
“Kiddo? He left a while ago,” Ivana said, surprised by the urgency on their faces.
“What? He left?”
Everyone’s expression shifted dramatically at once. Sylvie grew so anxious that tears immediately welled up. Aria, what do we do? Evan left ages ago, and we have no idea where he’s gone. What if he already…” She couldn finish. Her voice broke, and tears streamed uncontrollably down her cheeks.
Aria’s face lost all color. Even Victor’s palms were slick with sweat.
“What’s going on? What exactly happened?” Ivana asked, seeing that they all wore grim expressions.
After a brief pause, Aria spoke, her tone grim. “Someone is trying to kill Mr. Norwood.”
“What?”
The words struck Ivana like a thunderclap, blanking her mind for a heartbeat.
“Who’s trying to kill Mr. Norwood?”
Once the situation was explained, Ivana steadied herself with frightening speed. The commanding aura of the Queen of Finance surged back into place. “There’s only one road leading from here to the city…”
Everyone bolted down that road at once.
By now, the sky had turned pitch–black.
Thick clouds smothered the moon, and the roadside streetlights flickered weakly, casting distorted shadows across the empty highway and filling the air with an unsettling tension.
Suddenly, Evan felt something and let a faint, curious smile tug at the corner of his mouth. He came to a stop and spoke without turning around. “Aren’t you tired after following me this long?”
The atmosphere instantly tensed, turning cold and lethal. The air grew thick, suffocating, crushed beneath a pressure like a mountain bearing down. Four figures in black appeared around Evan, their presence warping the space itself.
The leader fixed his gaze on him. “You noticed us?”
“I noticed you ages ago.” Evan let out a soft, amused snort. “I was just waiting to see when you’d finally make a move. Impressive patience.”
The four assassins exchanged tense, wary looks. They had hidden themselves flawlessly. There was no reason Evan should have sensed them at all.
“Kid, you saved the Iron Dragon and ruined someone’s plan. That means you have to die.”
Suddenly,
all four assassins erupted with malicious energy at once and launched forward as one, their figures

blurring into streaks of shadow aimed straight at Evan.
The combined force of their attack ripped through the darkness like a violent storm. Even a few miles away, Sylvie and the others felt the explosion of malice, and their faces turned grave.
“Fuck!” Tyson roared. “They’ve already made their move. We’re too late! Move. Now!”
Sylvie and Ivana were so tense they forgot how to breathe, hearts hammering violently.
When the group finally reached the scene, they braced themselves for something horrific–prepared to see a tragedy they would never forget. But instead, they were met with a completely different sight.
The four assassins–powerhouses so dangerous even Aria and Victor would hesitate to face them head–on–were all striking at Evan at once.
But Evan vanished from where he stood. He moved so quickly that even the four elite commanders–Aria, Victor Tyson, and Seth–were stunned.
“Shit! The intel was wrong! He’s an expert!”
The assassins‘ faces drained of all color.
* By the time they realized their mistake, it was already far too late to escape.
