Sorry Too Late (by J.J. Twelve) novel Chapter 54

Chapter 54 The Smile That Cut Deeper Than Words

Evan sighed in resignation. “I’ll go after I eat dinner with you.”

Only then did Sylvie break into a happy grin. “That’s more like it!”

With that, Evan made her a lavish dinner, boasting an entire spread of Silverton’s local specialties. Sylvie swiftly devoured everything with obvious delight.

“Mmm! This is so good! Evan, your cooking keeps getting better and better! I want to eat this forever.” Her cheeks puffed out as she stuffed food into her mouth, speaking around her bites. Her eyes were practically shining.

Evan chuckled. “I’ll cook for you as long as you want me to.”

He had learned these dishes for Hazel, Roxanne, and Anya back then. Of course, they were good. He had thought his skills would be useless now that he lived alone, but Sylvie ended up being the one to enjoy them.

A faint smile appeared on Evan’s face as he watched her wolf down the food with such unfiltered joy. ‘Maybe her wolf down the food with such unfiltered joy. ‘Maybe having someone who genuinely enjoys my cooking… maybe that’s its own kind of happiness.’

“By the way, Evan, is it okay if you wait for me to finish eating before you go?” Sylvie asked after checking the time.

“It’s fine if I’m a little late.” Evan didn’t mind at all.

The Solberg family, especially Hazel, had absolutely no sense of time. Or rather, they only lacked it when it came to him. Hazel was always late when they had plans. Sometimes, she didn’t even bother showing up at all. He was used to it.

It was with that logic in mind that he figured it would be fine if he were late if they were inviting him to dinner.

“Great.” Sylvie relaxed and kept eating.

She wanted to stay with him longer, so she did her best to eat as slowly as possible. So, she took tiny bites, leisurely chewing her meal just so she could drag their dinner out for over an hour.

Meanwhile, the Solbergs had waited over an hour as well.

Stefan and Cynthia weren’t bothered, but Hazel was about to explode. She had kindly invited Evan to dinner. So, how dare he make her wait for him! To make matters worse, her relatives had already arrived, asking why Evan hadn’t arrived.

They might look like they were patiently waiting for him, but she knew that they were judging her. Fortunately, none of her relatives got upset at Evan for being late.

Evan was highly respected within the Solberg family. After all, he had managed their properties with exceptional skill, running everything so well that everyone had nothing but praise for him. Hazel had no choice but to swallow her anger.

She kept reminding herself over and over that she needed something from Evan, so she had to show the right attitude. She couldn’t afford to lose her temper, not right now.

Hazel forced a stiff smile to her face as she stood and reheated the dishes.
