Another came from above. Damon didn’t even look. A shadow spike erupted from the ground, impaling it mid-lunge. He followed with a burning lance thrust that punched through two more bodies in a straight line

Finally, the numbers started dwindling. The pack leader tried to reassert control. Blood sigils flared again. The remaining werevampires surged together in a desperate all-or-nothing assault, claws, fangs, blood constructs, and raw killing intent crashing toward Damon in a single coordinated wave.

But it was not enough to take him down. He was matching their speed and power as he pushed himself more and more. His mind worked at a surprising pace and a shocking clarity. He was starting to fight more with instinct than with thought, and that helped him react faster.

Even though all of his skills and affinities were stolen except the blood energy, they were slowly and slowly becoming his own, even divine energy. He was fighting in his peak state, and he felt as if he could keep going on and on. It felt absolutely exhilarating to dominate through sheer power.
