Stepbrother Mine A Son For Alpha Zoren (Ciara) novel Chapter 30

  1. Panic

30: Panic

Zoren

Ciara blinked slowly, seeming like she was struggling to focus. My brows furrowed and again, I silently wondered if something was wrong and she was hiding it from me. She managed to nod at her son while stroking his head.

“You should thank-” she was in the middle of her response when she suddenly trailed off, then… she collapsed.

It all happened in slow motion. One moment, she looked like she was back to herself, then next she just rolled off her seat in a fall. I was on my feet instantly, rounding the table fast before crouching beside her and taking her into my arms. It seemed to be burning up, more than normal and I cursed underneath my breath cause I had a feeling something was wrong this whole time but kept my thoughts to myself to avoid showing that I cared. Kai was out of his seat as well, crouching beside me while peering at her with large, worried eyes.

“Is my mommy alright?” He asked urgently. I tried hard to stop the panic gripping every inch of my chest right now but it was pointless, cause it just worsened instead. There was no use denying to myself that I don’t care about her because right now, I feel so worried for her.

Erica was still in her seat when I rose to my full height, an unconscious Ciara in my arms and when my eyes met hers, she shrugged.

“She’s just putting on an act to get your attention. Let’s keep having our dinner.” She called out as she sipped her drink leisurely. My brows furrowed as I stared at her, feeling annoyance settle me.

“And why would you assume that? She’s sick. She’s burning up and something is clearly wrong. I can’t believe you’d act so heartless.” I growled and she went still before gulping and slowly rising off the seat.

“You’re right, that was out of line and I apologize.” She breathed out softly as she walked around the table. I stared at her for a few more seconds, wondering when she changed into this kind of person. The Erica I knew and tolerated was the one who fell over herself to help someone in clear need. That was why she was loved by the entire pack.

“Should I get Ethan?” She asked and before I could respond, she was already rushing out to go fetch someone. I could still feel so much irritation in my chest but I walked out of the dining room almost immediately, with Ciara still in my arms and my son right by my side. Ciara weighed nothing and the way she was burning up was making me feel so worried and I tried to figure out the reason for the temperature. Her scent was still a little weird underneath the sunny tone and I wondered why, but having her in my arms right now felt like so

much bliss.

The doctor has finally been summoned and I stood by the side of her bed while the doctor looked her up. He didn’t waste too much time before he was facing me again, a grim expression on his face.

“I already warned you about this.” He began and I could barely contain my anger.

“Against what?” I barked and he flinched a little.

“Against the lack of bond, your majesty.” He explained and everything went still within me. My eyes briefly settled on her pale, sweating face before facing the doctor’s again as soon as he resumed speaking.

“Her body is burning up severely, that’s only because her body is suffering the loss of the bond, and from everything I’ve seen so far, I’d say it’s because you’re both fated mates.”

This time, I almost stumbled from shock as I kept staring at the doctor while his words danced in my head. Even though he did mention that this morning, I barely paid any attention after we parted ways. To hear him say this right now was beyond shocking.

“What?” I whispered while my heart reeled hard. The doctor nodded tensely, his lips in a thin line as he pointed towards me.

“You aren’t suffering yet because you’re stronger, thanks to your class ‘S’ wolf, but she isn’t, hence why her body is rebelling hard. Her body is presertly in a dangerois state and if it spends too long in this state, she’ll

end up slipping into a state far worse than this one.”

My eyes settled on Clara’s sleeping face. It was smooth and so achingly soft. As I kept staring at her, I wondered if she was really my fated mate. If that’s the case then that was beyond crazy. She is a human, how is it possible that she’s my fated mate?

“You’re unaffected yet but in no time, you’ll also get affected too. That’s why you need to act fast.” The doctor s firm voice pulled me back to the present.

“If she’s really my mate, how come I never felt it? Since the first time we crossed paths until this very moment, if we’re fated mates, I’m supposed to have known.” I pointed out while still frowning in pure confusion.

“I don’t think I have an explanation for that, at least not yet, but that doesn’t mean you’re not fated mates. All the signs point to that. She is your fated mate, your majesty.”

A breath shot out of my lungs as those words bounded through my insides at once before sinking in deep. My mind was still reeling hard and I was still so confused, but I guess all of that could wait. What is more important is making sure Ciara is saved.

I opened my mouth to speak but voices from the doorway of this room filled the air at once. We were presently in the ivory room, and I had guards stand outside the door because I predicted this happening.

“Why can’t I go in? Isn’t my fiance in there?!” Erica’s loud voice filled the air and it instantly made my head start to pound hard.

“You can’t, ma’am: we’re so sorry, but the alpha said no one must be allowed in.” One of the guards responded politely. Instead of Erica peacefully leaving, she began to try forcing her way in, which made a lot of noise to fill the air. I let out a ragged, frustrated sigh as I walked off to the doorway and pulled the door open. I was certain a scowl was on my face before my gaze locked with Erica’s.

“What is this, Erica?” I demanded and she averted her gase, looking embarrassed.

“I…. I just missed you and I was wondering when you’ll come out so that we can both-” I cut her off with a wave of my hand.

“Enough, Erica. I’m busy here; you may leave. I’ll come to you once I’m finished here.” I informed her but she shook her head.

“What if I wait there with you? I promise not to get in the way of the doctor, and besides, I’m really worried about her after she fainted. Is she alright?” I stared at her after she finished speaking but for some reason, I didn’t believe the lady part of her sentence. Usually I’d have believed in the blink of an eye but after listening to her outburst back in the dining room, I wasn’t sure of how to view her.

“Go back, and don’t create a tantrum here again, Erica.” I informed her in a firm voice before turning back around and closing the door after me. A long exhale left my lungs as I returned back to the bed where the doctor was still standing by. We were the only ones in here, while Kai was with my betas.

“So, how do we help her? And keep her from entering a state worse than this present one?” Would I have to bite her?” My wolf was ecstatic after those words left my mouth and he began to prance around happily, wanting nothing more than that. He had mostly ignored me since I severed that bite and the only time he had really acknowledged me since then, was this evening right after Ciara fainted.

If she was our fated mate, then it made sense why Xan, my wolf, was so obsessed with her.

“No, no biting just yet, cause that might trigger something else. The biting can come when her temperature is back to normal. For now, what she needs is close proximity. A lot of it.” I tensed as the doctor spoke, my mind reeling again.

“Close proximity?” I echoed and the doctor nodded.

“Yes. A whole lot of physical contact.” He confirmed and I nodded after a few seconds.

“Okay,”

That couldn’t be that hard. It’s just close proximity. I’ll probably just hold her in my arms until her temperature returns back to normal, that was it.

But then after that, I’d have to mark her, and that’s the actual problem.

If she’s really my fated mate then it means I’m doomed.

Humans are weak and can’t rule. A human can’t rule beside me, they won’t even be accepted by the pack members who’ve all been looking forward to getting a Luna for long years. I can’t also accept such a mate, a mate who’s a liar, back stabber and a thief. But if I bite her to save her, then that means I’ve already accepted her as my mate.

“Are you sure there’s no other cure? No meds that can work?” I asked while pulling on the roots of my hair. The doctor shook his head instantly.

“None. This is our only solution.” He revealed and I let out a long breath, feeling extremely conflicted. I want to rescue Ciara, the doctor explained that she’s in so much pain right now, but the thought of accepting a thief as my mate was very displeasing.

“I’m sure that the bite mark spot on her throat hurts. Maybe try working it with your tongue so the healing particles in your saliva can help in soothing it.” He suggested before adding. “After her temperature lowers, please restore the bite.”

Which in other words means if I refuse to restore the bite, something worse will happen to her and there’s no gurantee that I’ll be spared.

I felt hella conflicted as I stepped out of the room with the doctor, and after the doctor left, I went to the room where Kai was waiting in with me two betas and deltas. Kai was up and rushing towards me at once, stopping my my feet

“How is my mummy? Is she gonna be alright? Is she awake?” He asked fast without wasting time. Worry lines were on his face and I felt my chest ache a little.

“She is gonna be alright so stop worrying, okay?” I told him but that didn’t seem to convince him, cause his gaze narrowed.

“Can I go see my mommy?” He asked next and I crouched before him, trying to gently explain to him that it was better his mum is allowed to rest and that he’ll see her once she wakes up, but he didn’t seem to be listening and in no time, was about to start throwing a full blown tantrum until I gave in with a sigh.

“Fine, let’s go see your mummy then.” I tell him and he beamed at me at once.
