29: dinner2
I tell her after a while she she grinned before sinking back down in her seat. With a frown, I realized she was sitting on the right side of the head of the table. I had planned to seat Clara right there, while Kai, at It left hand side.
I gritted my teeth, pushing the irritated feeling to the back of my mind as I let my eyes wander around the table. Ciara and her son were sitting opposite Erica, with Kai seated by my right hand side, and Ciara, frankly too far away from me. It was at the tip of my tongue to ask Erica and Ciara to switch seats, but what would my reason be? That I wanna be closer to the person who once backstabbed me over the person I’m engaged to?
My eyes resettled on Kai and I exchanged a hearty geeetung with him, feeling glad when he brightened up instantly. I couldn’t believe I was once worried that he might be closer to other men in his life over me. Turns out all the men who’ve been in his life have been assholes, including Ciara’s present boyfriend. I was still gonna have a talk with her about that, perhaps tonight. I was gonna ask her to break up with her boyfriend. Was that a little over the top? Perhaps, but I didn’t care. As my mind kept wandering, my gaze zeroed in on Ciara. As I kept staring at her, I felt in awe of her sheer beauty right now. It never failed to amaze me, even though she wasn’t smiling right now and looked almost uncomfortable.
Dosent she want to be here right now? Does she still hate me and is only forcing herself to be around me because of Kai? Or is she annoyed because of Erica’s presence? Or was she looking uncomfortable because she’s been feeling that pain in her chest since we’ve been separated after our time on the field? At the thought of that pain, I realized it has dimmed again since I stepped foot in here. Now, I had no idea if it was reduced because of the stripe or because of her presence in here. Which is it?
As thought ran through my mind and I hated that I didn’t have an answer to that.
With a sigh, I patted my pockets, feeling for the stripe, then I walked around the table till I was by her seat. She blinked up at me, her eyes a little unfocused and that made me drown as I assessed her closely.
It was at the tip of my tongue to ask her if she was alright but I quickly swallowed the words down. Even if I was worried about her, I wasn’t sure I want her to know just yet. I held the stripe up and she blinked a few times as she sat up, seeming like she had spaced out.
“What’s that?” She asked quietly, confused and I demanded for her wrist then I tied it around it. Her skin was so soft around my touch, as soft as i remembered it being. I want to drag my lips over it, but I managed to control myself against it, cause not only would that be so out of place right now, Erica was staring at me right now with laser eyes.
As if on cue, her voice rang through the air. “What’s that?”
“A medicine.” I responded, still not dropping Ciara’s hand after fully tying the stripe.
“A medicine for what? And she can tie it herself.” Erica called out but I shot her a sharp look that made her
quieten down. Ciara’s face was flushed as she blinked at me, and then her eyes seemed to dim then glaze over again, like she was spacing out again, before I could stop myself, I was crouching in front of her.
“Ciara, are you alright?” I asked firmly, which seemed to bring her back to the present. She flushed and attempted to pull her arm out of my grip but my hold was firm.
She cleared her throat as she nodded fast. “I’m fine, just tired. That’s all.”
As I kept watching her, a weird, dull, burnt scent filtered through her delicious scent which was wafting into my nose right now and my frown deepened.
“Are you sure?” I asked and she nodded, assuring me again that she was okay, but I still wasn’t convinced. Her scent was off, like something was wrong. Was she hiding something from me?
As the dinner started, my eyes kept drifting towards Ciara against my will. But something was off and I was fully convinced about that. She was silent throughout, still seeming to spacing out. Unlike her, Liz talked nonstop, and not only was o happy to indulge him, I was happy he was comfortable to be this free arround me outside a fun activity.

“Here you go.” I tell him as I pushed his plate in front of him, right after I helped him cut up his steak into smaller pieces. He hasn’t accepted my help when I offered at first, until I insisted. I already feel like he’d grow up into the kind of alpha that likes to deal everything on his own without support, just like I did. I wouldn’t want that for him cause that’s a very bad mindset. No one is above help and slowly, as I get closer to him, I’ll show
him that.
Ciara only talks whenever Kai spoke to her, and sometimes he has to call her a few times. I also noticed that she was sometimes reaching for that bite on her neck, almost unconsciously.
“Baby, help me cut my meat up.” Erica’s voice pulled me to the present and I gave her an unimpressed look.
“Really? You can’t cut these yourself?” I asked and she sighed. “I can but my long nails makes it hard. Help me?”
As I cut her meat up for her, I kept looking over at Ciara, frowning cause she’s barely touched her food. Isn’t it up to her taste? Or was something on her mind?
“Why do you keep looking at her?” Erica asked beside me and she didn’t look happy when my gaze locked with hers.
“What’s it to you?” I asked, frowning and regretting allowing her to stay. She pouted as she leaned closer before speaking.
“It’s just that… I’m jealous, no one would like when their man is looking at another woman in their presence, especially an ugly one.”
I shot her a sharp look. “she’s not ugly, she’s-” I quickly caught myself cause I was just about to say that she was the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, but I guessed that wouldn’t be fair to say that to Erica. And so, I said again.
“Don’t call her ugly, you know she’s not, and here.” I handed her her cut steak, but she didn’t touch it, still frowning and looking unhappy. I guess I should be worried and asked why she’s still frowning, it’s probably what she wanted, but right now, I only want to ask Ciara if she’s sure she’s okay. Somehow, that’s the only thing on my mind right now.
“Are you enjoying the steak?” I asked kai who nodded eagerly. He gulped his milk down and satisfaction engulfed me as I watched him eat. He has a really healthy appetite and I couldn’t be happier. I’ll make sure I build up his bones and strength in the coming weeks so when he finally shift, he’ll be funny ready for that. “Kai, I got you a present. Here,” Erica called out from the table, offering him a smile while holding out the wrapped present to him. But Kai didn’t accept the present, he just kept staring at it.
“I don’t accept present from strangers, I’m sorry.” He breathed out and erica let out a startled laugh of disbelief. “I’m not a stranger, tell him, babe!” She faced me this time but I remained silent, my lips pursed. Kai was ckeerly brought up well, not accepting presents from strangers, not telling strangers your name, not hugging strangers, those were great qualities that much stick to children for their own safety, and I’m glad it has stuck to Kai.
Ciara seemed to have returned back to the present at this very moment just as kai glanced over at her, clearly waiting for her verdict.
