“Shut the hell up, Erica.” I barked out angrily, not in the mood to exchange words with her at this point.

“Things have officially ended between us now, so go back your things because you’re leaving in an hour.”

Tears dripped down her face as she began to pull at her hair and stomp her feet. “After five years? Five good years? You’ll dump me? No! I refuse to accept this breakup!”

I regarded her while feeling a feeling of annoyance grow stronger within me.

“That’s sad and I can also apologize for that, it wasn’t my intention to make you waste your time. However I also wasted my time thinking you were a good person with a good heart, not knowing you were the complete opposite.” I pointed out and she grew even more hysterical.

“I didn’t even do anything! This is so unfair and all because of that-”

I cut her off fast. “If you call her a wrench, you’ll regret it. Now, go pack your fucking things. I can’t have you here another night cause who knows what you’ll then try to do to my son?” I barked and when she began to cry all over again while claiming I was confused and that this was probably a set up.

“I also know you’re the one who scratched your own face and lied against Ciara. This made me realize you’ve done something like that to a lot of people around me but I never figured this out until recently. Those poor souls probably tried, reporting you to me but I’d always defend you and claim you’re innocent and could never hurt a fly,”

As I spoke, I stepped even closer and crouched before her, then I grabbed her throat and jerked her closer. She stiffened as she blinked up at me.

“Here’s what’s gonna happen, I don’t want us to end on bad terms, okay? I know you don’t want that either. So don’t try to make me change my mind or even try to beg for forgiveness, cause nothing’s gonna work.” As I spoke, I felt so much anger clinging to me until I let go of her and rose to my feet.

“If you’re yet to fully pack in an hour, my guards will throw you out regardless. That would be too humiliating so ensure you’re ready before they get to do that, then leave by yourself, or you’ll get thrown out.” I turned away after those words left my mouth, then I walked out of her room without looking back.

After leaving that room, I went straight to Sarah’s room, eager to set my eyes on Kai, to confirm with my own eyes that he’s okay. Ethan said he was but I’d like to see him misled and this made me understand how protective Ciara used to feel over Kai even more.

Sarah was inside her room alongside Kai who was tapping away on an iPad while Sarah combed his hair, as they chatted away like friends in the same age group. My entire shoulders sagged at the sight of Kai looking perfectly fine, but before I could announce my presence, Kai was already looking up in my

direction.

His eyes instantly lit up. “Zoren!”

As my heart ached when he slipped off the bed and rushed towards me, I wished to hear him call me dad but I guess that could come soon. He stopped in front of me, offering me a grin and a handshake that looked ridiculous to me cause I’d rather hug him, but I have to respect his wishes, so I accepted his hand.

“Are you alright, Kai? And did you sleep well?”

He nodded, looking behind me before he peered up at me again. “I smelt my mommy, I assumed she was here too. Are you here by yourself?” As those words left his mouth, he leaned into me and sniffed loudly at my shirt, then his face instantly brightened.

“You smell just like my mommy!”

I felt embarrassed because I could feel Sarah’s eyes on me right now.

“Yes I smell of her cause I took care of her last night,”

He looked so pleased. “Is she okay now? Is she awake?”

I shook my head. “She’s asleep cause she needs a lot of rest, but once she wakes up, I’ll take

to her, okay?”

“That’s good. She needs a lot more rest cause she never gets any, you know?” He smelt displeased and I frowned as I shook my head.

“I actually had no idea. She never rests?” I echoed and Kai nodded fast.

“She works a lot of jobs, that’s why. It takes a toil on her but she never stops despite that.” He frowned as he explained and I felt myself grow confused as those words danced in my head.

“How many jobs does she have?” I asked and Kai sighed as he responded.

“About four, and they’re all stressful.”

As I turned that word around in my head, I tried to put two and two together. She stole a lot of money from my father in the past, didn’t she? And that amount is a lot that they’d not have to work throughout their rest of their stay on earth. So why’s she working so many jobs?

I felt so displeased at the thought of her overworking herself, and my wolf quickly reminded me that she belongs to me so she’ll never have to go through that kind of hardship again.

But for her to be struggling so hard… that means did she actually steal the money then? If she did, she’ll be stinkingly rich now. As I kept dwelling on that thought, I decided that I would just ask her about that incident that took place five years ago once she woke up.

I crouched in front of Kai as I spoke. “Your mommy won’t ever have to overwork herself ever again, okay?”

Kai looked adorably confused. “She won’t?”

I nodded firmly. “She won’t,

After getting to my feet, I glanced over at Sarah and asked if they’ve eaten. She said Kai kept refusing breakfast, insisting he’ll wait until his mommy so they could eat together.

I faced Kai again. “C’mon dude, let’s go eat together. You can’t starve yourself because of your mommy, you think she’ll like that?”

He slowly shook his head and my heart ached in my chest as I carefully reached for his hand, then my heart swelled when he gripped my hand instead of shaking it off. “No, I guess she won’t.”

“Then let’s go have a large breakfast, then we’ll work out today. No slaving off.” He groaned, sounding tired but also excited. As we exited that room, I felt filled up and complete on the inside. Kai is now my priority and so is Ciara now and on moving forward, I’ll also protect them and keep them safe.

Because they’re both mine.

I looked at Kai bouncing on his feet.

“Guess what, Kai.”

“We’re having a very good breakfast?” He asked and I laughed while ruffling his hair.
