Chapter 53
Zoren
“I sense a great danger ahead of him,” Jetro breathed out just seconds after Kai and Jet exited the room. I had them leave after Jetro spend a few minutes checking Kai out, cause I’d rather whatever he finds to not get revealed right in front of the kid.
Ciara instantly stiffened just as panic filled my chest.
“What? Danger? What danger?!” Ciara cried out, her voice pitched high.
I sat straighter just as Jetro spoke. “His shift is very close. It’s gonna happen very soon.”
A deep breath left my thrust and I felt panic gripped me even harder.
“He’s gonna survive the shift, right?!” I demanded fast and when jetro remained silent, I wanted to lounge at him for stalling.
Ciara bursted into tears, clinging to me tightly. Jetro looked away from me. Anger flared hotly in my chest.
“Jetro.” I growled.
“that’s uncertain. I wasn’t able to see a pathway for him after the shift.” He revealed in a quiet voice and my ear rang hand as those words echoed through my mind.
Ciara sobbed even harder. My hands shook as I patted her back, pain bleeding into my voice as I spoke next.

so that means he’s not gonna make it?!” I demanded and jetro shook his head.
“I didn’t say that. A lot of things can still happen before then, which can change the outcome of his shift.” He revealed but that didn’t make me feel a little better or rest assured.
“I dint want my son to die.” Ciara sobbed as she blinked up at me, her eyes swimming with tears. “Don’t let him die, Zoren.” She breathed out as she cried even harder and my heart broke as I kept staring at her, not because I hate the sight of her crying but also cause I was scared shirtless right now and also don’t want to lose my son, but now I feel powerless cause I don’t think there’s anything I can do to help in this situation.
“Can you cast a spell on him or something? Something to slow down the approach of the shift for example,” I breathed out as soon as that thought crossed my mind.
Jetro shook his head and I deflated even more. “I can’t, I’m not strong enough to.”
“But what about your stronger warlock friend?” I pressed, desperate to save my son. The thought of losing him made me sick to the bones. Not after I just got to know of his existence and is yet to even spend enough time with him. He mustn’t die. I’ll never let that happen.
“I guess he can help. I’ll reach out to him,”
I nodded, clinging onto that little drop of hope. “Please do,”
After jetro and Alex left to give Ciara and I privacy, I sat fully in the seat and tugged Ciara over me, making her lay against my chest. She was no longer crying, but she was sniffing here and there. My hands stroked her hair snd her side. I didn’t even realize when I began to do that.
“He’s not gonna die, okay?” I breathed out and she sniffled, clinging to me even tighter.
“you can’t know that.” She mumbled quietly, dejectedly,

“Believe me, I just know it.” I pointed out before continuing. “He has strong parents, that’s why he’s strong. He’s certainly strong enough to survive the shift.”
She sat up after that while huffing. “That’s not true. He has just one strong parent. You. I’m not strong.”
I clicked my tongue in disapproval. “But you are. Even aside what jetro revealed, you’re a very strong womsn. You raised him all by yourself. That’s a very incredible thing and you killed it. You raised him to be a very fine son,”
That made her crack a small smile which warmed my heart instantly.
“I had my sisters though.” She mumbled.
“But at the end of the day, that’s not the kind of strength we’re talking about in this situation. You’re strong, and I’m…”
I cut her off. “You’re also strong, jetro said there’s something very strong inside of you. I believe him. He’s my friend and he’s never been wrong before. Which means you’re strong as well.”
“If he’s never been wrong, that’s more reasons to be worried about Kai.” She pointed out and I nodded.
“Yes, but remember he said the outcome isnt certain. That can still be changed. It’s why we’ll try to meet up with his powerful friend as fast as possible. Well save our son no matter what.” I breathed out with a confidence I wasn’t fully feeling on the inside.
“I really hope you’re right.” She whispered, and this is exactly why I’m not letting any fear show at all. If I’m visibly scared, she’ll be downright spiraling into a panic attack.
“I am.” I breathed out and she sighed as she burrowed into my throat, breathing in and out while her chest moved agsinst mine.
“That thing jet said about me? Do you believe it?” She asked after a little while.
“Of course. Don’t you?” I asked and she shrugged slightly, huffing as she sat up again.
“It’s just hard to believe cause my parents are human. Humans!” She breathed out and I hummed, my head tilted as I let my mind wandered.
“Are you fully sure? Including your father?” I asked and she was already nodding before she stiffened.
“I mean… I believe so, yes.”
I snorted. ” you don’t sound sure.”
She huffed. “That’s cause he died a long time ago, I don’t really remember much about him.” She pointed out and I hummed.
“This means he might not be human like you’re thinking.” I revealed and her mouth fell open as she kept staring at me, shock clear on her face.
“I…” she began but trailed off.
“Don’t stress yourself on this too much. You’re not in danger or anything so we’re gonna take our time and dig until we get to the root of this, all the way from what you actually are to who it was that put that barrier inside of you.” I assured her in a firm, assuring voice and that helped in calming her down.
“But right now, our main piority is our son and we’ll fully focus on that, on helping him.” I added and she nodded fast this time, her eyes shiny as she stared at me.
“You’re right.” She agreed with another nod.

I know she’s very overwhelmed right now and I got up, helping her to her feet as well.
“Will you go get some rest? I know this isn’t easy on your mental health at all.” I murmured, my hands massaging her shoulders and arm. Her mouth opened and closed a few times as she blinked at me before she spoke, hesitantly.
“Will you come with me?”
Her face flushed when I stood frozen. I hadn’t expected her to invite me along with her.
“I mean… that’s cause I’ll just go overthink myself to death by myself but if you’re with me, I believe it would help me relax…” she mumbled, looking at everywhere but at me.
“I’d really love to do that, but I need to go speak with jetro, to collect the contact of his strong warlock friend.” I breathed out and she nodded fast.
“Ah, that’s right. I forgot about that. You go do that, ignore me, I was just being silly…” she was blabbing when I cut her off by pressing my lips against hers. It was featherlight and soft but it sent shivers into my chest.
Her cheeks flushed when I pulled away. “You’re not silly, your emotions are valid, and I’ll come to you by the time I’m done, okay?”
She bit on her bottom lip she nodded. “Okay,” she whispered and I nodded.
“Good girl.”
