7: meeting again
7: meeting again
Ciara/Alice
It felt like time got frozen for long seconds. No words were uttered after that, Zoren just continued to stare at me, the shocked expression still plastered over his face as he kept staring between myself and at Kai.
“What did you just say?” He finally echoed, voice still and controlled and I let out a slow exhale, my arms still around Kai who was regarding Zoren curiously before he blinked up at me as he spoke.
“Mommy, do you know that man? Was that who you said we were visiting?” Kai asked, his head tilted in confusion but my attention returned back to Zoren who seemed to finally understand what I meant, because the shock on his face morphed into something else, and then in the very next moment, he began to march towards me in sure, controlled steps. I let out a stuttered breath, feeling this strong urge to run away right now, cause the look in his eyes was unreadable and it unnerves me so much.
“Start explaining.” He barked once he was right in front of me and a terrified breath whoosh from my lungs. I clutched my son tightly, hoping that even if he wants to hurt me, he leaves my son out of it, cause he has nothing to do with any of this.
“J- just please promise me that you’ll not hurt me first-” I began in a small voice as I blinked up at him while my heart pounded away. Up close, he looked even more imposing, more imposing than he used to be in the past.
He stared at me for a few seconds before bursting into laughter, then he spoke. “Do you seriously believe you’ re in a position to ask that of me? After what you and your mother pulled in the past?” He asked in a sharp, grating voice that had me flinching from fear.
In the very next moment, Kai was pulling himself out of my arms and standing right In front of me to my utter shock and surprise, his arms held out in front of him as he declared confidently. “Don’t hurt my mommy, I won’ t let you!” His voice was a little weak but still firm and it surprised me so much that he was this fearless in front of Zoren.
A terrified sound caught in my throat and I quickly reached for him, not wanting him to anger Zoren and make Zoren dislike him without getting to know him first. “Honey, please s- stop. Don’t speak to him like that.” I whispered, because clearly Kai doesn’t know what his father is capable of. I didn’t know either, but from him kidnapping us and bringing us here alone was proof that he’s capable of a lot of dangerous things.
But Kai refused to cower, and instantly shook my hands off. “No, I’ll not let him hurt you, mommy.” He said to me before facing Zoren again, voice firmer and chin raised confidently this time.
“No one hurts my mommy.”
A gasp caught in my throat and my eyes stung a little as I got overwhelmed with emotions at once. He was so young, still a baby, and yet he was this passionate about protecting me. It was clear that he was gonna grow up into a kind man, and that’s exactly why I want to get him the help he needs so he could grow up without problems.
I watched with bated breath, praying that Zoren wouldn’t slap Kai or something. Zoren stood still, a few inches away from Kai, and then slowly, he closed the distance between them and crouched right in front of Kai. At once, a breath caught in my throat. So many times in the past, I’ve imagined Zoren meeting his son, but it was never like this, in such a tense moment.
“What’s your name, kid?” Zoren finally asked and to my surprise, his voice wasn’t harsh. That made me have a little hope that he wouldn’t have Kai punished for standing up to him.
Kai let out a displeased sound. “Uh… I’m not supposed to give out my name to strangers, and I’m not a kid.” He responded and another sound caught in my throat.
Kai was really something else.
“Honey, you can tell him your name-” I began to say, but Zoren was already speaking again.
“Well, kiddo… I’m not gonna hurt your mommy, okay? You can calm down now.” Zoren said to Kai, still

crouched in front of him.
Kai made a frustrated sound. “I’m not a kid, and– I guess thank you for not hurting my mom. My mom is very special to me, I don’t want her to ever be hurt.”
My heart squeezed tightly in my chest and my eyes stung again. Oh, Kai… who’d ever believe he was just five years after listening to him speak like this?
Zoren was silent after that, and when his eyes darted towards me from Kai’s side, a sound caught in my throat and remained stuck there. Zoren returned his attention back to Kai, and he offered him a grin, one which briefly blinded me and completely caught me off guard. It completely transformed his face just now.
“You’re very protective of your mommy, that’s very good.” Zoren said to Kai before smoothly rising to his feet and facing me as he continued.
“However, your mommy has a lot of explaining to give me, a whole lot of it.” He drawled and I swallowed emptily while my heart thumped hard against my ribs.
That surprisingly went well, way better than I could have predicted. I was still on the ground, my feet tied up, and in the next moment, Kai returned back to my side and I held his hand just as Zoren walked towards the door, opened it and called out to someone.
“Have her untied and show them to the ivory room.” He barked the brisk order and my mind reeled, wondering what the ivory room was and if that meant something good.
The man on the other side of the door stuttered. “T- the ivory door? Are you sure, alpha?”
“Of course I am. Don’t question me, Jet and do as ordered.” Zoren snapped before stepping out of the room without a backward glance, leaving me and Kai to a tall, lanky guy standing in the doorway, a surprised look on his face as he stared at me and my son.
The guy walked into the room and quickly untied my feet. “I hope this tie didn’t hurt too much.” He said to me and shook my head before I heaved in relief after the ropes fell off. I accepted his offered hand which he used in pulling me up.
“I’ll show you two to the ivory room now,” he said to me and I nodded tensely just as his gaze snagged on Kai who was willingly holding my hand now. A gasp caught in the guy’s throat as he gaped at Kai, then he glanced back at me.
“I- is that the alpha’s…” he trailed off and I blushed before ducking my head.
He seemed to figure it out himself before he cleared his throat briskly and then he began to lead the way out of the room. He looked so young, maybe twenty years old? His limbs were gangly and almost awkward, like he was yet to fully grow into his height. I bet he was also a werewolf.
“What is the ivory room, please?” I asked him tentatively as he led up through a bunch of hallways. He glanced at me as he responded, his curly dark hair falling into his brown eyes.
“That’s Alpha’s Zoren bedroom.”
