8: Is there a catch?
Ciara/Alice
“This room is so big, mommy!” Kai gushed as he looked around, awe in his eyes as he twirled around the large, exquisite looking room. He raced towards the floor length window and cooed at some birds, and I let out a shudder as I stepped deeper into the room, confusion clouding my mind.
Why did he order us to be placed here? In his bedroom?
He was mad at me, he hates me, I was fully aware of that. So, this made no sense.
The large bed in here was so imposing and it made my cheeks heat up, and I had no choice but to sit at the edge of it because there was no chairs in here. Almost immediately, Kai walked towards me, eyes curious. “Mommy, who was that man?” He asked and I reached out to briefly stroke his cheek. I feel a little unsure about telling him who Ziren is yet, not without talking with Zoren first and confirming that he was gonna accept Kai. To avoid breaking Kai’s heart.
“He’s a friend, one I knew in the past.” I finally responded and Kai’s eyebrows furrowed.
“He seems cool. I like him,” he declared and my eyes widened, shock consuming me, because Kai doesn’t like adults easily. He loved every kid he came across but for adults, it was usually harder for him to like them, so I feel very surprised.
“You do?” I echoed and he nodded.
“Yes, but at first I didn’t though. I thought he was gonna hurt you.” He frowned this time and I instilled some sternness into my voice as I spoke next.
“This reminds me, what you did back there was reckless, Kai. You could have gotten hurt. I know you wanna protect mommy, but remember that you’re still a kid, okay? Don’t do that again.” As I spoke, he grew unhappy. “But that man complimented me. He said what I did was good.” He pouted and I sighed, feeling extremely drained. If anyone told me this was gonna be my life in the future, I wouldn’t have believed.
“Besides, he smelt so good, I wanted to get a closer sniff but I was respecting his boundaries like you always said.” He chirped in before his gaze darted around the room and he took in a deep breath, then his face brightened. “He smells just like this room.”
My heart lurched in my chest as I watched Kai crawl into the bed and took a deep whiff of the sheets before he began to roll around in it.
He used to claim that he could smell people in the past, but I used to think he was being ridiculous cause that was impossible. But now that I know that he’s a werewolf, i realized that I might have been wrong this whole
time.
“Honey, what did that man smelt like?” I asked Kai who was still rolling around in the bed, looking relaxed as hell, and like he was familiar with this place. It wasn’t like him to quickly get comfortable in a strange place.
“Like… like rain, and something else. I don’t know what it is, but it’s a nice smell. It feels comforting in my chest. Can’t you smell him, mommy?” He asked and I shook my head while dwelling on his words. Before any of us could speak again, a knock echoed off the door and I stiffened at once.
“Who is that?”
“It’s jet.” A now familiar voice called out and after i asked him to come in, the lanky guy opened the door. “Are you two hungry? The alpha ordered for you two to be served.” Jet revealed and I felt surprised all over again.
Zoren was offering us food, just after putting us in this room. This feels too easy, like there’s a catch somewhere.
After the food got brought, I was too tense and worked up to eat, thinking about what could be the reason for Zoren doing this. But my son scarfed his food down, his appetite surprisingly high. These past few weeks, his Successfully unlocked!

appetite withered away along with his sleep, making me resort to sleeping pills and the likes in order for him to keep functioning. That was what pushed me into seeking out his father despite knowing he undoubtedly hated me.
I wondered if Zoren and that woman he loved back then were now married, but he had no ring on, so I wasn’t sure. But most married men don’t wear their rings anyway, not like it was my business. I was only here to help Kai.
Kai yawned and I gaped at him, watching him splayed out in the big bed, clutching one of the pillows to the side of his face. He looked on the verge of falling asleep, and I almost began to sob, because this is the first time in weeks that he grew sleepy without the help of sleeping pills. All in the span of minutes of just meeting with his father.
The doctor clearly hadn’t been lying. He needed his father and this just solidified that for me.
I watched as he slowly fell asleep while still clutching the pillow which I assumed also smelt of Zoren. He doesn’t even know that Zoren is his father and yet his body already seeks him out.
How incredible.
My phone buzzed in my bag which was brought to us along with the food and I quickly pulled it out, my heart jumping a little at the caller ID. It was my boyfriend.
“Alice love, how are you?” His smooth voice rang through the phone and I swallowed, feeling a little relieved to be hearing his voice. It was nice to hear from somewhere familiar in all of this.
“Nico, I’m doing okay, how are you?” I asked next,
“Just left work and I was thinking about you. Did you end up reuniting with that friend of yours?” He asked. I didn’t tell him the truth that I was seeking out Kai’s father, cause he had no idea I knew who Kai’s father was. I told him it was a drunken night mistake and he never judged me for it. Instead, he cared for Kai, not as much as I’d like, but it was better than nothing.
“Oh, yeah. I did, she was so happy to see us,” I gushed with faux excitement and hummed.
“When will you return? I wanna have you over, I already miss you so much.” He sighed and my heart fluttered. Meeting Nico two years ago at the hotel I now work at as a receptionist was a blessing. He was amazing and cool, we got along really well so it wasn’t hard to fall in love with him. He was smart, gentle and funny. He wasn’t that great with kids but he always tried his best and that was what matters.
“I’m not sure yet.” I responded honestly and he hummed again. “Just keep me updated, and when you’re coming over next… don’t bring Kai, okay?”
Something clenched in my chest. I’ve always wished he and Kai got along better, but Kai didn’t like him and he
wasn’t that fond of Kai either.
“Nico, you know I can’t leave him alone at home.” I pointed out.
“I can get him a baby sitter throughout. You know he can be a lot and I don’t want all that energy over. I want just you.” He responded and I felt annoyed cause I was so protective of Kai. But slowly, I calmed myself down, reminding myself that Nico wasn’t good with kids but always tried because of his love for me.
“Nico-” I was about to tell him that wasn’t gonna happen and that my child goes wherever I go when a knock on the door made me tense up at once, then Jet’s voice pierced through the door. “Miss? The alpha has sent for you. I’ll lead you to him now.”
I gulped, then I told Nico I’d call him back before ending the call. Thick tension settled heavily in my chest as I pushed off the bed, taking one long look at my son before I headed towards the door. I was already expecting him to send for me anyway because I knew I had a lot of explaining to do to him.
Here we go.
I followed jet down the halls again, trying but failing to memorize the way. He glanced at me and offered me a
smile.
“Don’t worry, you and your son are safe,” he assured but I still wasn’t a hundred percent sure about that.

He finally stopped in front of a large door, then he said. “Good luck.”
He was gone after that and I wanted to cry out for him to take me with him, but I knew that was impossible.
With a deep breath, I knocked on the door.
“Come in.” Zoren’s deep voice vibrated through the door, pulling at my chest and making my legs wobble a little as I stepped forward and pushed the doors open and stepped into the room.
It looked like an office with a large desk and chairs around it. I glanced around, wondering where Zoren was until the door slammed closed behind me. I gasped and jumped, whirling around to see Zoren standing right in front of the doors in all his glory, making me gulp as our eyes locked.
His grey eyes bored into mine, making me tense up even more while a terrified shiver raced down my spine as he cocked his head sideways and regarded me slowly, his gaze raking over me from head to toe.
“Little thief, you sure have changed since five years ago, don’t you think so?” He drawled and my eyes widened as I shook my head while my heart pounded away.
“I- I’m not a thief, Zoren. I- if you’d just let me explain…” I began, my voice trembling and I trailed off when he let out a booming laugh that had me flinching.
“Your hair is red. Tell me, did you change your identity to hide away from me? Your ID card said your name is now Alice. How interesting.” He continued, his lips twitching as he spoke and my heart kept pounding away as my mind reeled. Shit. I should have known my bag got searched after we were knocked out.
“That’s not, I- I can explain, I promise.” I whispered, but he was already marching towards me. A gasp caught in my throat and I quickly inches away from him, but unfortunately, my back hit a wall almost immediately, and he was right in front of me in the very next moment, a hand placed on the spot above my head as he stared down at me, his eyes hard and his voice low and dangerous as he spoke.
“Where have you been hiding this whole time?”
No sound left my throat and he continued. “Do you know how much I searched for you? How hard… only for you to not only be hiding away, you were hiding something else from me, you were hiding my son.”
My eyes widened as those words left his mouth and right now, he looked downright furious, making me gulp just as his other hand grasped my chin and made me lock eyes with his as he continued.
“Care to explain yourself to me?”
