Stop Running Love, I Found Our Child novel Chapter 12

The answer was right in front of her, but she still needed to hear him say it.

He pressed his lips into a thin line, staring at her in silence.

"And you never thought about having kids with me, about building a family of our own, did you?"

He remained silent.

Ivy broke down, her eyes completely red. "Say something..."

"I'm sorry, but no, I didn't," he finally replied.

Those few words ripped through her heart like jagged glass.

Ivy stood there, utterly hollowed out. The night breeze caught her hair, and a wave of dizziness washed over her, making her feel as though she might collapse.

His phone buzzed. He frowned, took the call, and after hanging up, instructed her with maddening calm, "Go home and wait for me. We'll talk later."

With that, he turned on his heel and walked away, his bodyguard trailing closely behind.

Watching the Maybach disappear into the city lights, Ivy stood paralyzed for a long time. The agonizing grief crushing her chest made her wish the ground would just swallow her whole.

Ivy lost count of the tears she cried that night.

She had been abandoned, yet again.

The family she had dreamed of building was reduced to ashes in an instant.

The relationship she had cherished was nothing more than a rich man's fleeting game.

Breaking up was easy for him.

But...

Ivy rested a trembling hand on her stomach.

What was she supposed to do about the baby?

Exhaustion claimed her, and she slept through the entire morning.

It was almost one in the afternoon the next day when she groggily opened her eyes.

The bank card he had given her still sat on the dining table. The uncleaned, cold takeout from the night before served as a brutal reminder that the heartless words he had spoken over dinner were not a nightmare.

She had no appetite. She forced herself into the shower, letting the cold water wake her up.

She sat alone on the couch for a long time, staring blankly ahead.

Cole had told her to wait for him, but he never came home that night.

She stared numbly at the front door. She sent him several texts, but none of them received a reply.

Pushed past her breaking point, Ivy lost her composure and called him, over and over again.

At first, it just rang out.

Then, he started sending her straight to voicemail.

Ivy realized just how naive she was being. The man had broken up with her without a single trace of emotion—why would he care about her now?

Those words, 'We'll talk later.'
