Julian was utterly speechless.
Summer couldn't hold back a scoff, stepping back quietly to clear a path for her overly enthusiastic relatives.
The Vance family moved with terrifying speed, crowding around to usher Julian and Xavier inside.
Xavier's sheer, oppressive aura intimidated them too much to actually touch him, so they settled for aggressively gesturing toward the table.
Still slightly bewildered, Julian allowed himself to be herded into a chair.
Xavier followed suit, striding into the room with measured steps.
Jared's father eagerly pulled out a chair for Xavier, while the rest of the room stood at attention, plastering eager, groveling smiles on their faces.
Xavier didn't decline. He took his seat smoothly, his posture exuding absolute dominance and icy authority.
Summer tried to slip out unnoticed, but Julian's eyes seemed hardwired to lock onto her presence in any crowded room.
"Summer!"
"Is this your doing?!" Julian demanded aggressively, his face hardening. "Did you mess with the room signs outside?"
Julian had caught wind that Yates was closing a major business deal here and had dragged Xavier along to ruin it. With Xavier in the room, there was no way Yates's deal was going through.
Honestly, Xavier could have destroyed the contract with a single phone call.
But Julian loved the spectacle. He wanted to watch the bastard son seethe with a hatred he was powerless to act on.
The anticipation had been thrilling!
But instead of kicking down the door to his enemy, he had crashed a pathetic family reunion.
That bastard Jared had kicked her joints out from under her.
The sudden, violent impact sent a blinding spike of pain through her kneecaps. Her eyes instantly watered.
She tilted her head up, meeting Xavier's glacial, uncaring stare.
"Have you finally thought it through?" Xavier asked coldly. "Do you know what you did wrong?"
Summer let out a breathless, mocking laugh. Tears stung the corners of her eyes, but they were bright with pure defiance. "You actually believe the garbage coming out of their mouths? Mr. Sterling, is your intelligence degrading from spending too much time around your moronic lapdog?"
"Summer!" Beulah's face turned a horrifying shade of purple. "Is that how you speak to your husband? Honestly, Xavier, I don't know how you've tolerated her this long. Any other man would have slapped her across the face by now! If she refuses to be obedient, what use is she as a wife? Do you think we raised you so you could climb over your man's head and act like a god? Grovel and beg for his forgiveness this instant!"
Julian's expression had already darkened significantly; he had zero doubts that the 'moronic lapdog' comment was aimed squarely at him.
But hearing Beulah ruthlessly tear into Summer filled him with a twisted sense of satisfaction. Suddenly, ruining Yates's business deal didn't seem quite as urgent.
