Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 212

To her utter surprise, she saw Lily Sutton sitting in the interviewee's seat.

When Lily caught sight of Summer, she also froze in momentary shock.

She knew Summer worked here, and once she joined FutureTech Systems, they were bound to run into each other.

She just hadn't expected it to happen this fast.

"Summer," Lily raised an eyebrow, a mocking gleam flashing in her eyes. "You're working HR at FutureTech?"

Why else would Summer be here?

Summer felt no obligation to satisfy her curiosity. She walked straight to the head interviewer's chair and sat down. "Lily, what are you doing at FutureTech?"

Seeing Summer take the head seat, Lily assumed her guess was spot-on, and the mockery in her gaze deepened.

Who would have thought that the former CTO of the Sterling Group had been reduced to a lowly HR rep? People would laugh their heads off if they knew.

Feeling thoroughly vindicated, Lily sneered, "What do you think? I'm here for an interview. Are you even qualified to be in HR?"

Director Hennessey frowned slightly, finding Lily incredibly rude. Her tone was completely arrogant and dismissive.

What did she mean by 'qualified to be in HR'? What was wrong with HR?

If she kept pushing her luck, Hennessey would gladly fail her right on the spot.

Keeping her complaints to herself, Director Hennessey glanced at Summer.

She had immediately sensed the toxic tension between the two women. Seeing that Summer didn't need her help, she held her tongue and decided to watch the drama unfold.

Summer smiled, offering no explanation, and asked, "You're applying for the position of Assistant to the CTO. Do you honestly think you're cut out for it?"

Lily lifted her chin haughtily and tapped the resume sitting on the table. "Summer, my resume is right there. With my education and experience, don't you think I'm overqualified?"

Summer picked up the resume, gave it a passing glance, and said, "It's just a piece of scrap paper. It doesn't prove a thing."

"Scrap paper?" Lily scoffed. "You're deliberately targeting me!"

Summer was destined to end up with nothing.

On top of that, Xavier had received intel that Wesley Whitmore was working on a project with Harrison Banks. Since Banks was too busy, he had recommended FutureTech for the job.

But Banks hadn't washed his hands of it entirely; he was still overseeing the general direction.

This meant anyone involved in the project would get face-time with Harrison Banks and perhaps even receive his personal guidance.

That was why she had decided to interview and secure a position here.

Unfortunately, FutureTech wasn't hiring engineers right now. The only open position was for an assistant to the CTO.

Lily was willing to swallow her pride and take the job temporarily, knowing that following the CTO would grant her access to core projects.

Gold always shines eventually. With her abilities, it was only a matter of time before the CEO, Gavin Loomis, recognized her exceptional talent. From there, getting Old Man Banks' appreciation would be easy.

With that in mind, Lily mocked, "Summer, you're just a petty little HR manager!"
