“Mr. Loomis, please don't be angry,” Lily coaxed softly with a smile. “They're just speaking their minds. They didn't mean any harm. I apologize to Summer on their behalf.”

She then turned to Summer. “Summer, please don't take it personally.”

Summer maintained a deadpan expression, her eyes devoid of emotion. “Unless it's about work, save the small talk.”

A few engineers immediately rushed to defend Lily. “Director Sutton, don't apologize to her. We're just stating facts.”

“Exactly. Doesn't she know her own limits? Expecting to lead when she clearly doesn't measure up.”

Gavin's chest heaved with fury. “If you can't speak respectfully, then shut up! You think you're better? Let's settle it then. Prove your worth against me. If you beat me, then you earn the right to challenge Summer.”

Gavin was utterly enraged, but Summer saw no point in arguing with them.
