Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 260

Sterling Group had prepared basic cots for everyone. Anyone who couldn't hold out any longer could lie down and grab a quick nap.

Early the next morning, Lily sauntered into the conference room, looking entirely refreshed.

She put on the airs of a hostess. "You've all worked so hard through the night. I've had breakfast prepared. Help yourselves to whatever you'd like."

Paige led the staff in, carrying multiple bags of breakfast food.

It was breakfast from a nearby five-star hotel that never offered takeout, yet Lily had somehow managed to procure it.

However, no one in the conference room moved. Everyone kept focused on their tasks, not even bothering to glance up.

The atmosphere instantly turned awkward.

Of course, aside from Lily, no one felt awkward because everyone else was genuinely engrossed in their work.

After waiting for an eternity and seeing that no one was paying her any attention, Lily gritted her teeth resentfully and stormed out.

Summer cast a casual glance before pulling her gaze back, having zero time to waste on her.

The day bled into night, and the clock was ticking close to midnight.

The moment midnight struck, the license would expire.

Yet Summer's end still wasn't finished.

Lily sneered repeatedly, thinking Summer wasn't so capable after all. She had made such a huge fuss, rehiring all those useless trashes Lily had fired at a premium price.

Pampering them with premium food and drinks.

And in the end, they still couldn't pull it off. What a joke!

Xavier asked, "When will it be ready?"

"What's the rush?"

Summer was cutting it close, taking her time with the final checks without an ounce of panic.

In truth, the system had been ready for launch much earlier, but Summer intentionally dragged it out to the last minute just to watch Xavier squirm in anxiety.

On the surface, Xavier remained perfectly composed, betraying no emotion, but a stress blister had already formed at the corner of his mouth.

When Summer was truly focused on work, she was sharp and efficient, never this agonizingly slow.

A realization struck Xavier, and he narrowed his eyes slightly. "You're doing this on purpose."

Summer refused to admit it.

Xavier studied Summer for a few more seconds, catching the fleeting glint of mischief in her eyes.

Xavier let out a soft chuckle. He didn't seem angry or eager to scold her; after all, it was already this late, a few more minutes wouldn't hurt.

Moreover, he firmly believed that while Summer might stir up trouble, she knew her boundaries. She wouldn't joke around when Maeve's wellbeing was on the line.
