Silas didn't even spare the gifts a glance. He couldn't care less about such trivial offerings. His dark eyes grew even colder. "Doesn't the Sutton family owe Summer an explanation?"
The Suttons hadn't even thought about Summer. Since the incident, they had been entirely preoccupied with rushing Lily to the hospital, comforting her, and doting on her.
They hadn't given Summer a second thought.
But since Silas brought her up, they were forced to put on a show.
After Bennett and Lydia gave a half-hearted apology, Miles stepped forward, his eyes filled with apparent remorse. "Ms. Vance, I'm sorry. This is all my fault. Please don't blame my sister. It was an emergency, and she's pregnant—we couldn't risk her getting hurt. I know I shouldn't have used you as a human shield, and I am truly sorry. I had no other choice. It wasn't malicious, so I hope you can forgive me."
Summer stared at him with freezing detachment. "Miles, did you merely use me as a shield? You fully intended for me to die."
Miles frowned, the crease between his brows disappearing quickly. "Ms. Vance, I know you hate me, but that was never my intention."
Summer let out a soft laugh, though her eyes remained devoid of warmth. "It wasn't? Your aunt had already shoved Lily aside, yet you deliberately pushed me straight into her blade. You used a lunatic to try and murder me."
"Ms. Vance, I had no motive to do such a thing."
"Of course you did. Maybe you wanted to eliminate Xavier's ex-wife for your sister to get rid of the thorn in her side? After all, your aunt is legally insane. She wouldn't face prison time for murder, nor would it be considered a crime."
Miles clenched his fingers into fists, his face turning utterly glacial. "Summer, you could be held legally liable for making such accusations."
Summer met his sharp gaze without flinching. "Don't worry, I've already handed this matter over to my lawyer. I'm sure we'll have an outcome very soon."
On the day of the incident, Sebastian Stone had immediately initiated legal proceedings.
Xavier chimed in. "Summer, given the circumstances, Miles made a calculated call. Everything—"
Summer snapped her head toward him. It was the first time she had acknowledged him since he entered the room. "Shut your mouth!"
This was also the first time Summer had ever yelled at Xavier. Her tone was so sharp and commanding, it left absolutely no room for argument.
Xavier frowned but ultimately kept his mouth shut.
Summer remained resolute, flatly refusing any settlement or compensation.
After the Suttons left, Silas turned to Summer. "Aren't you curious why you look so much like Lily and Lydia?"
Summer hadn't been curious at first. She was a grown woman now, no longer a child desperately craving parental affection.
Besides, she already had loving adoptive parents, a son, amazing friends, and a fulfilling career. She was doing great.
So, having biological parents didn't matter to her anymore.
But Leila's crazed demeanor as she sought revenge for her daughter, along with her deranged words, kept looping in Summer's mind.
On top of that, the Suttons had actually tried to kill her.
Summer was never one to sit back and play the victim. If someone wronged her, she would absolutely make them pay.
