Without missing a beat, Silas blurted out, “No need.”
“No need?” Summer raised an eyebrow. “Aren't you trusting me a little too much? Aren't you afraid that if we split, I'll take you for half your net worth?”
At that thought, an amusing idea crossed Summer's mind.
“I already divorced Xavier and took half his wealth. If I swindle you out of half your net worth too, wouldn't that instantly make me the richest person in Empire City?”
After finishing their tea, they left the teahouse. Summer stopped by her place to grab her documents, and the two headed straight to City Hall.
In the end, they didn't sign a prenup.
When they took their official portrait, Silas subtly leaned his head toward Summer. His eyes were overflowing with such profound happiness he looked like a lovestruck fool.
Their certificates were processed quickly.
“Mrs. Sinclair, I look forward to our future together,” Silas said softly, presenting her with a stunning bouquet of fresh roses.
It turned out his 'bathroom break' earlier had just been an excuse to buy her flowers.
“Thank you.” Summer hugged the bouquet, her smile even more radiant and beautiful than the blooms. “I look forward to it too, Mr. Sinclair.”
That smile nearly stopped his heart. Silas quickly lowered his gaze, concealing the intense, consuming emotions surging in his dark eyes. “Then, does Mrs. Sinclair have some free time right now? I'd like to take you home to meet the family.”
Sinclair Manor.
Alaric despised hospitals, so after getting his doctor's approval, he had moved back home.
Holding the two freshly stamped marriage certificates, he grinned so widely he couldn't close his mouth. “Wonderful, wonderful! Finally, a girl willing to put up with you.”
He immediately tucked the certificates away. “Grandpa will keep these safe for you.”
Summer was speechless.
But mindful of the old man's fragile health, she swallowed her protests and maintained a polite smile.
Alaric picked up an intricately carved wooden box from the table and opened it. Inside rested a piece of jade—an absolute masterpiece in both material and craftsmanship.
“Summer, my dear, this is the Sinclair family's heirloom jade. It is the absolute symbol of the matriarch. I don't have many days left, so I'm passing it to you now. Later, when Leo gets married, you can pass it on to his wife.”
The poor old man genuinely believed Leo was his biological great-grandson and adored the boy unconditionally.
The very first thing he had asked when they arrived was why Leo hadn't come with them.
A heavy wave of guilt washed over Summer.
Not only was Leo not a Sinclair, but he actually had Sterling blood running through his veins—even if she was divorced from Xavier now.
It was an undeniable fact that Leo was a Sterling.
The Sinclairs and Sterlings were blood enemies.
If Alaric ever found out he was planning to give the family heirloom to a child of his sworn enemy, he would probably die of sheer outrage.
