"You should really have at least a taste, Summer," Beatrice relentlessly pressured her. "This is phenomenal stuff. Authentic blood-red bird's nest is practically extinct on the market. It's the kind of ultra-premium luxury that you can't even buy with money alone."
Summer tilted her head, a soft, incredibly approachable smile curling her lips. "Beatrice, you look like you're absolutely dying for a taste. Why don't you have it?"
Beatrice's smile instantly froze. She waved her hands in sheer panic. "Oh no, Summer, I couldn't possibly! I'm just a maid. I don't deserve something so expensive. Please, enjoy it. I need to get back to the kitchen."
Beatrice turned and bolted from the room as if her shoes were on fire.
Summer let out a low chuckle. She ran fast enough.
Lydia smoothly interjected. "Summer, Beatrice might have a big mouth, but her culinary skills are unmatched, which is the only reason I tolerate her. She stewed this bird's nest to absolute perfection. Just try a bite. If you can't finish it, that's completely fine. Just eat what you can."
Lilith chimed in with a saccharine smile. "Summer, we women really need to pamper ourselves. Have you been working too much overtime lately? Your complexion looks a little dull. Eating this will boost your circulation and bring the radiant glow right back to your skin."
Summer smiled and gracefully slid her untouched bowl directly in front of Lilith. "You're pregnant, Lilith. You're the one who needs the extra nutrients. You eat it."
Lilith's spoon hovered mid-air before she quickly forced a laugh. "No, I'm good. This bowl is more than enough. Being pregnant makes you feel incredibly bloated if you overeat."
Summer nodded understandingly and then smoothly slid the bowl over to Lydia.
"Then you should have it, Aunt Lydia. You worked so hard preparing dinner tonight. Besides, as women get older, maintaining their skin becomes a full-time job. A nutrient-rich diet is the best way to fight the clock."
Lydia's grip on her spoon tightened so hard her knuckles turned white. Forcing a tight smile, she replied, "It's fine, Summer. If you don't want it, just leave it. My doctor said eating rich foods this late isn't great for my health anyway."
Hunter watched the luxurious bowl being passed around like a hot potato, his mouth watering after hearing the maid brag about how incredibly delicious and rare it was.
He had never tasted bird's nest before, and the endless hype around it had thoroughly sparked his childhood curiosity.
Hunter suddenly piped up. "Aunt Lilith, if nobody wants it, can I eat it?"
Summer blinked in genuine surprise, then arched an eyebrow. Before Lilith could even open her mouth, Summer shoved the bowl straight in front of Hunter, flashing him the warmest, kindest smile imaginable. "Of course you can. Eat up."
Please, eat every last drop.
In that exact second, Summer didn't need a mirror to know she was smiling exactly like the Big Bad Wolf offering Little Red Riding Hood a treat.
Lilith's and Lydia's eyes instantly dilated with sheer panic.
Summer calmly took in their horrified reactions, sneering internally. It was absolutely poisoned.
This family was ruthlessly toxic. Not content with destroying her mother with this exact same method, they were now aggressively trying to take her out too.
The only lingering question was whether Bennett Sutton was in on the hit.
While Summer analyzed the situation, Lilith frantically snatched the spoon right out of Hunter's hand. "Kids can't handle rich foods like this! You'll give yourself a bloody nose! If you're full, go play in the living room!"
Since they wanted to play it that way...
