Gripping her clothes tightly, Lilith kept her head down and continued to cry. "I'm sorry, Summer, it's my fault. The internet has been cursing me out all month, and I've become too sensitive. It's my fault, please don't be mad."
Listening to her cry only irritated Summer further. She used to think Lilith was some elite, independent career woman who returned from overseas, but it turned out she was just a manipulative, whining hypocrite wearing a disguise.
She had no idea how Xavier could stand it.
Or maybe this was exactly his type. Men naturally loved protecting fragile flowers and enjoyed the feeling of being completely relied upon.
It made them feel like some grand savior.
"Cry, cry, cry. Anyone who didn't know better would think this was a funeral! Dad isn't dead yet; you're crying too early."
"Enough, Summer!" A tempest of rage gathered in Xavier's eyes as he roared menacingly. "There's no need to be so vicious! You look truly repulsive when you're acting this aggressive!"
Summer laughed, immediately firing back. "Xavier, you look equally repulsive when you show off your complete lack of brains and inability to tell right from wrong!"
"Summer!"
"Brother-in-law, Lilith just admitted herself that she's being overly sensitive. Doesn't she have depression? Has her depression mutated into a persecution complex? If that's the case, then she's just a psycho. You really shouldn't let her out of the house."
Xavier was burning with rage, while Summer remained utterly composed and elegant. Her tone was completely unhurried, making Xavier look like a clown jumping around in a panic.
Xavier was infuriated. He was used to being the mastermind controlling the entire board, but whenever he faced Summer, he often found himself stomping in anger.
If this kept up, it would end badly for everyone. Lydia stepped in to smooth things over. "Alright, we're all family here. Let's just drop it. Today is your father's sixtieth birthday, after all."
Catching Lydia's look, Lilith tugged at Xavier, asking him to accompany her upstairs to rest.
Once Xavier and Lilith were gone, Summer felt the air in the living room clear up significantly.
Miles placed the peeled mangosteen in Summer's hand. Summer glanced at the snow-white fruit, then looked up at Miles.
Miles gave a slight nod, signaling that it wasn't poisoned and she could eat it safely.
Only then did Summer take the mangosteen and start eating.
Lydia went to the kitchen to check on the dinner preparations, while Bennett walked over.
He had used his birthday as an excuse to summon Summer back, fully intending to mediate between the two sisters.
Bennett was counting on the two sisters to expand and strengthen the company together.
The current rift between them was actively harming the company's operations and growth.
This was the last thing he wanted to see.
So the husband and wife both had their own schemes, but they shared the same goal: bringing Summer back home.
Bennett let out an exaggerated, theatrical sigh. "Summer, I know you've been wronged. Don't worry, I've severely reprimanded Lilith. She knows she was wrong too. She was never like this before. It's just the hormonal changes from the pregnancy making her overthink and spiral."
