Lilith barely showed, but she was actually already eight months pregnant, which still counted as premature.
When the Sterlings got the news, they rushed to the hospital in a frenzy. The light above the operating room was still on, and Paige Brooks was waiting outside.
Spotting Carlson Sterling, Paige quickly went to greet him and, without waiting for him to speak, summarized the situation.
"Mrs. Sterling went into premature labor. The doctor said they couldn't stop the contractions and had to perform an emergency C-section. Boss is in the delivery room with her."
Carlson was quite superstitious. Hearing this, his face darkened, and he struck his cane against the floor. "He is a grown man, why is he staying inside a delivery room? That's incredibly bad luck!"
Zelda said coldly, "I bet that bitch Lilith begged Xavier to stay with her. I know exactly how she operates. We're all women, who hasn't given birth? Only she would be this overly dramatic and insist her husband accompany her."
Paige disagreed but didn't dare speak up, keeping her head down as she waited for instructions.
"Say less," Arthur Sterling frowned and asked Paige, "What did the doctor say? Are the babies in any danger?"
That was the Sterling family's primary concern.
As for Lilith, they couldn't care less. Their plan had always been to take the children and kick her to the curb once she gave birth.
Someone like Lilith was completely unfit to be the matriarch of the Sterling family.
Paige shook her head. "The doctor didn't say, but Boss got her here in time, and the surgical team consists of top specialists he contacted in advance. It shouldn't be a major issue."
The Sterlings sat outside the operating room to wait, while Paige thoughtfully brought over a few cups of warm water.
An hour later, the light above the operating room turned off, and the babies were transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit.
Lilith was moved to a private suite.
After the doctor explained the post-op instructions and the nurse hooked Lilith up to an IV drip, they left the room.
Lilith's luxury suite had its own private living area. The Sterlings all sat in the living room without stepping foot inside to see her, nor did they show any signs of leaving.
Sensing they had private matters to discuss, Paige tactfully excused herself, claiming she was going to buy some late-night snacks for Xavier.
Xavier took a sip of warm water. "Do you have something to say?"
Carlson sat perfectly straight on the sofa, both hands resting on his cane. "Since she's given birth, go get a divorce and pay her off."
Xavier lowered his gaze. Having stayed in the delivery room, he had witnessed firsthand the immense agony of childbirth.
It only made his heart ache more for Lilith.
"I am not divorcing Lilith. You can give up on that idea."
Carlson furrowed his brow fiercely. "Xavier, this is not a negotiation."
"I am not negotiating with you either." Xavier stood up, his gaze turning somber. "Go home. I don't want to hear this again."
Xavier's wings were fully grown now. If he wanted to listen to his family, he would; if he didn't, he would simply walk away, exactly like he was doing right now.
Carlson's expression was furious, but there was absolutely nothing he could do to stop him.
Meanwhile, at another hospital.
Bennett and Lydia had been rushed into emergency surgery. Summer had been heavily protected by Miles and suffered almost no injuries.
Miles had sustained minor burns in a few areas. After the nurse finished treating his wounds, the two of them waited outside the operating room together.
