"I know you're angry, and I deserve this. But please, don't make us divorce. As long as you don't force us apart, I will accept whatever punishment you deem fit! Hit me, curse at me—I'll take it all! Please."
Saying this, Lilith collapsed to her knees on the floor.
Thud, thud, thud—
With each strike heavier than the last, she slammed her forehead against the hardwood until blood instantly blossomed across her skin.
Xavier couldn't bear to watch. He fell to his knees beside Lilith, reaching out to hold her back as she tried to continue hurting herself.
He looked firmly at his parents and grandfather. "Grandpa, use the family whip on me. I am Lilith's husband. Whatever she did, I will take the fall for it."
Zelda almost fainted from anger. Thankfully, Arthur caught her just in time, slipping nitroglycerin pills under her tongue and gently rubbing her chest to soothe her breathing.
Zelda was consumed by an agonizing hatred—hatred for herself for raising such a blind, hopelessly romantic fool.
What was so great about Lilith?
She clearly looked like a shameless, manipulative bitch.
Honestly, with Lilith as a comparison, Zelda began to change her mind about Summer.
If she really had to choose between Lilith and Summer as a daughter-in-law, she would gladly take Summer.
Summer seemed like someone who lived a grounded, pragmatic life.
Unlike Lilith, whose heart was full of toxic twists and endless schemes.
Yet her foolish son, a ruthless titan in the business world, fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
Zelda was burning with rage but utterly helpless, which was the most agonizing part.
Carlson was also furious. He had originally planned to let Lilith leave with a shred of dignity for the sake of her two sons.
Now it seemed impossible.
Carlson's voice was as cold as ice. "In that case, bring the whip!"
The heavy leather whip was retrieved by the butler. As Carlson stood up, gripping the handle tightly, Lilith trembled in fear but heroically threw herself over Xavier's body.
Crack—
A sharp scream tore from her lips. The agonizing pain made her vision go black, and she nearly passed out.
She clenched her fists tightly, repeating a venomous mantra in her mind: Hit me, keep hitting me. The more you hurt me, the more Xavier will ache for me.
Thinking this, Lilith locked her arms around Xavier, refusing to let go.
"Let go!" Xavier tried to pry her fingers apart.
Lilith sobbed loudly. "I won't! Grandpa, if you're going to hit someone, hit me! It's my fault, and I'll bear it alone. Don't hurt Xavier."
Crack—
Another brutal lash fell. Lilith's back was instantly stained with blood, and the heavy, metallic scent of copper filled the air.
Xavier finally managed to pry her hands away, just as the next strike descended.
Without a second thought, Xavier shielded Lilith with his own body. The whip cracked violently across his back.
Xavier had been born with a weak constitution and rarely faced physical punishment growing up.
