Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 415

The police station.

On the way there, Lilith Sutton reviewed every detail in her mind, convinced the police could not possibly trace anything back to her.

She simply could not understand why they had called her in.

Had they actually found something?

The fear of the unknown was the most excruciating torment.

Lilith's heart pounded erratically, her palms and back drenched in cold sweat, making it nearly impossible for her to sit still.

Fortunately, her lawyer returned her call shortly after.

Minnie Franklin had been arrested.

In reality, Minnie had never met Misty Lane face-to-face, so both Lilith and her assistant had assumed they were perfectly safe.

Yet, her lawyer confirmed the worst—Minnie was in custody.

A bone-deep chill seized Lilith's heart, her limbs turning to ice as she forced herself to ask, "Do we know how she was caught?"

Minnie had contacted the young nurse.

Even though she used a burner phone, the authorities had deployed advanced tracking technology to trace the signal directly to Minnie's location.

The police had moved in with lightning speed, arresting her and confiscating the burner phone used to contact the nurse.

Misty had faced an assassination attempt the moment she woke up, and since Minnie had been monitoring her, she became the prime suspect.

Furthermore, the police discovered that Minnie had anonymously emailed a wealthy businessman.

The email contained photos of Misty's assault.

It also included a single line: Misty is awake, Miles Sutton hired the best psychiatrist for her, and she will remember your face soon.

Consequently, that businessman had also been arrested.

The primary suspects were now Minnie and the businessman.

The case did not directly implicate Lilith, but since Minnie was her assistant, she was brought in.

Lilith was simply brought in for questioning to rule out her involvement as an accomplice and to see if she could accidentally reveal new evidence.

Entering the station, Lilith took three deep breaths to steady her nerves, nodding politely but keeping her mouth shut.

Her lawyer had strictly advised her to say as little as possible to avoid mistakes.

The officer said, "Ms. Sutton, since Minnie Franklin is your assistant, we brought you in to clarify a few things."

Lilith nodded, glancing at her watch. "I have a meeting. You have exactly ten minutes."

The officer smiled and nodded. "Thank you for your cooperation."

Lilith's most frequent answers were: "I don't know," "I'm not sure," and "I never looked into it."

Whenever the police pressed further.

Lilith would simply reply, "I apologize, but you might not understand how people in my position operate. We make money by the second, so we don't concern ourselves with trivial, everyday matters."

Since they had no hard evidence tying Lilith to the crime and her answers yielded nothing, the officers had no choice but to escort her out.
