It was a career-ending move.
Luckily, Summer approached them first, offering a polite smile. "Secretary Holloway. What a coincidence."
Secretary Holloway forced a professional smile. "Ms. Vance. Are you here for dinner as well?"
Summer nodded, her gaze shifting to the visibly panicked assistant. "Why does Assistant Sawyer look so frantic?"
Assistant Sawyer glanced nervously at Secretary Holloway. When the senior secretary remained silent, the assistant quickly spilled the entire situation.
Summer arched a knowing eyebrow. "If that's the case, let's go. I will entertain our guest on behalf of the company."
"Ms. Vance," Secretary Holloway felt a surge of immense relief, but expertly feigned hesitation. "Are you sure? What if Director Sutton arrives?"
Summer stared right through her. It was glaringly obvious that if Secretary Holloway genuinely opposed the idea, she would have silenced her assistant immediately.
Anyone who made it to the rank of executive secretary was a master of corporate survival.
Assistant Sawyer, on the other hand, was likely getting fired by Lilith the moment this was over.
"What is there to worry about? Are you afraid of Director Sutton's temper? She'll understand. I am doing this strictly for the company's benefit. After all, when I missed a dinner due to a car crash a few days ago, didn't she step in and sign the contract for the good of the Sutton Group?"
Summer strode purposefully toward the corridor. "Let's go. Stop wasting time. Which room? Lead the way."
Inside, Alistair Thorne was perfectly polite to Summer, but when it came to the contract, he rigidly insisted on waiting for Lilith's arrival.
He was far more strictly principled than Gregory Grace.
Then again, Gregory had likely capitulated entirely because Xavier had been sitting at the table to enforce it.
Reading the room, Summer stopped pushing the contract and smoothly redirected the conversation, keeping the atmosphere light as the servers began bringing out the courses.
Suddenly, Silas Sinclair strolled past the open door, paused, took a few steps backward, and walked straight into the VIP room.
"Summer, it really is you."
Summer's eyes lit up. "Silas, you're back from your business trip?"
Silas nodded easily. "Straight from the runway to a dinner meeting. Wait for me when you're done here; I brought a gift for Leo."
Summer smiled warmly. "I will."
Their exchange was effortlessly casual and familiar, carrying an undercurrent of intimate, unspoken affection.
