She seemed even crazier.
She began to suspect that Lydia had suffered too great a shock and actually lost her mind. Maybe it was time to take her to a psychiatrist for a proper evaluation.
But she didn't dare say it out loud, fearing it would trigger Lydia further.
Lilith tried to soothe her. "Mom, stop scaring yourself. She died in that fire. It can't be her. Plus, we're out of the country. You must be seeing things because you didn't sleep well last night."
Lydia remained trapped in her own world. She said nothing, but she didn't believe it either.
Furrowing her brow, she turned around to find Dr. Joseph.
"Dr. Joe, the woman you were just speaking to looked exactly like an old acquaintance of mine. Could you tell me her name?"
Dr. Joseph smiled. "She's my aunt, Lillian. A very elegant and beautiful lady."
"Is she from my country?"
"Uh-huh."
"Could you share her native name?"
"Her native name is exceptionally lovely. It's June." Having said that, Dr. Joseph offered an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, I have a surgery scheduled, so I must excuse myself."
Inside the operating room.
Leila had finished her pre-op examinations and was lying on the operating table.
Dressed in sterile scrubs, Summer sat beside Leila, holding her hand and gently massaging it. "Don't be afraid."
Leila was in high spirits. For one, her daughter was by her side.
Secondly, she had just witnessed Lydia's terrified, frantic reaction.
Her face hadn't fully healed yet, but to deliberately provoke Lydia, she had applied heavy makeup and custom-ordered a vintage dress just like the ones she used to wear.
Thankfully, spending her days tending the estate's garden, walking the dog, and practicing yoga had not only improved her physical and mental health but also restored her figure and poise.
So, dressed up and fully made up, she looked remarkably like her former self from a distance, though it couldn't hold up to close inspection.
Up close, the heavy layers of cosmetics were obvious.
Leila's eyes were tender. "With you here, I'm not scared."
Dr. Joseph entered in his surgical gown. "Rest assured. With me here, I promise she'll be fully restored, as stunning as she used to be."
Dr. Joseph had seen photos of Leila in her youth, so his reconstructive work aimed to recreate her peak beauty.
Meanwhile, outside the operating room.
