Lilith's agonizing scream of "Mom" flipped a primal switch in Lydia's brain. She had been cowering in the corner this entire time, but now she threw herself into the fray without a second thought.
"Get away! Get away! Don't touch my daughter!"
Lydia fought like a cornered animal, punching and kicking wildly at the mob, her sharp nails tearing into their flesh.
In her crazed state, she packed quite a punch, and her frantic rage was genuinely terrifying. But she was still just one woman—she couldn't outmuscle a pack of hardened criminals.
"Where did this ugly freak come from? Get lost!"
Smack!
A brutal backhand sent Lydia crashing to the floor. Her cheek instantly swelled, and she spat out a mouthful of blood.
A vicious kick quickly followed, sending her sliding across the floor until she slammed sickeningly into the concrete wall.
She gagged violently.
Coughing up another mouthful of blood, the world faded to black, and Lydia lost consciousness.
The mob's predatory gaze immediately locked back onto Lilith.
Lilith shook her head in absolute terror. "No, stay back! I have money! I can pay you however much you want."
"Stay back, I'm begging you!"
...
Lilith lay on the icy floor, shaking in absolute despair. Her clothes had been ripped to shreds, and her body was covered in sickening bruises.
Her eyes were hollow, but a searing, venomous hatred burned deep within them. She wanted to kill every single one of them!
It wasn't until much later that the guards finally showed up.
Everyone was hauled off to solitary confinement—including Lilith.
The next day, at the golf course.
Xavier had gotten wind that Wilson would be playing a round here today.
He showed up specifically to track him down.
After reviewing the hospital's security footage with his lawyer the day before, the lawyer suggested they play the insanity card for Lydia to secure her release.
As for Lilith, she hadn't done anything inherently illegal and had spent the entire time trying to de-escalate the situation, so she wasn't actually implicated.
Bailing Lilith out should be a breeze.
The catch was, they were on foreign soil. Local authorities wouldn't accept any psychiatric records from back home, meaning Lydia had to undergo a full psychological evaluation here.
Relying on the precinct to file the paperwork and push it up the chain of command meant they could be waiting until the end of time for approval.
That was exactly why Xavier had tracked down Wilson.
The man was, after all, the top brass of the police force.
