"What? The album is gone?" Xavier Sterling stared at Wesley in sheer disbelief.
Wesley nodded. "It's really gone. Their house was broken into a few days ago. Everyone was so focused on the missing cash and jewelry that if I hadn't brought up the album, they probably still wouldn't know it was missing."
Xavier narrowed his eyes slightly. "Thieves stealing cash and jewelry makes sense, but why would they take a photo album?"
Wesley replied, "You think it's weird too, right? Do you think the fact that you've been investigating St. Jude's Children's Home got leaked?"
Xavier looked at Wesley.
Wesley raised his hand as if taking an oath. "I haven't mentioned a word about this to anyone outside this room."
Xavier's gaze darkened. "If it wasn't you, then it was me."
Half an hour later.
In the living room of the Sterling Manor, a maid cowered on the floor, her shoulders hunched, her head bowed in terror.
Xavier had been resting for a while and could finally walk. Dressed in dark loungewear, his hands tucked into his pockets, he slowly approached the cowering maid.
Though he hadn't said a single word, the oppressive aura of an apex predator was impossible to ignore. The maid shrank further into herself.
"Are you going to confess, or should I send you to the police precinct?"
The maid wrung her hands, stammering nervously, "Mr. Sterling, what do you want me to confess? Did I do something wrong with my work?"
Xavier stared down at her with a predatory gaze. "Don't you know exactly what you did?"
"Mr. Sterling, I really... I really don't know what you're talking about."
"Is that so?" Xavier pulled out his phone. "Then let's send you to the precinct. The police can ask for me."
The maid looked up in horror. Seeing that Xavier was genuinely about to call the cops, all the color drained from her face. "Mr. Sterling, please, don't call the police! I'll talk, I'll tell you everything!"
Xavier shot her a sideways glance. "Too late."
Xavier called the police and had the maid arrested. The charge: stealing corporate secrets from the Sterling Group.
The evidence provided was a security footage clip of the maid acting suspiciously and eavesdropping outside Xavier's door.
