Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 60

Left with no other choice, Summer brought the wolf inside and dialed 911, asking the police to come retrieve the animal and return it to Lily.

Tessa happened to be home and came over to help unpack.

The second she saw the wolf, she let out a bloodcurdling scream, plastered herself flat against the wall, and instinctively grabbed a decorative vase off a nearby cabinet for self-defense.

Sensing the sudden hostility, Fang immediately dropped into an attack stance. His lips curled back slowly, exposing a row of terrifying, glinting fangs.

"Fang!" Leo threw himself in front of Tessa. "This is Aunt Tessa. No biting. Do you understand?"

Fang obviously didn't speak English, but seeing Leo fiercely protecting the woman with that intensely serious little face gave him the hint.

He instantly dropped his aggressive posture, trotted over, and began wagging his tail, shamelessly nuzzling Leo's leg to win his favor.

Tessa was completely bewildered. "Leo, is this yours? When did you get a pet wolf?"

"No, this is Lily's wolf," Summer explained, walking over to pat Fang on the head.

When Fang looked up at her, Summer pointed directly at Tessa and said firmly, "No biting. Memorize her face."

Fang let out a soft whine, then immediately glued himself to Summer's side, rubbing against her affectionately. He was clingier than a golden retriever.

"Not only does Lily's wolf refuse to bite you, he's practically obsessed with you?" Tessa found the entire situation utterly surreal.

Summer felt the exact same way.

"Lily is going to be absolutely furious." Tessa burst out laughing. "She really raised an incredible wolf, didn't she?"

A little while later, the police arrived.

The moment Fang realized they were there to take him away, he threw an absolute fit. He refused to cooperate, tearing wildly through the apartment and turning the already messy living room into a total disaster zone. He snarled viciously at the officers, his eyes practically glowing with feral menace. He was utterly terrifying.

The two officers were completely exhausted from trying to catch him, and eventually backed off, terrified that provoking him further would result in someone getting mauled.

Summer had no choice but to let him stay temporarily. She promised to personally drop him off once she had the time.

After the cops left, Fang squeezed himself under the bed and refused to come out, letting out pathetic, muffled whimpers that sounded suspiciously like crying.

Leo lay flat on his stomach, staring under the bed at the miserable wolf. "Mom, can we really not keep Fang? He's crying. He clearly wants to stay with us."

Honestly, Summer had grown quite fond of the dog-brained wolf herself.

But the wolf belonged to Lily.

Summer pulled her car into the parking lot of the reserved restaurant.

"Summer."

Hearing her name, Summer locked her car and turned around. A man was walking purposefully toward her.

He was tall and imposing, dressed in an impeccably tailored, staggeringly expensive suit that highlighted his flawless physique. Broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and endlessly long legs—he had the exact proportions of a high-fashion runway model.

Beyond that, he had the face of a cinematic leading man. His features were sharply sculpted and breathtakingly handsome, his eyes deep and intense. A pair of silver-rimmed glasses rested on the bridge of his straight nose, catching the cold evening light. Not a single strand of hair was out of place. He exuded an aura of freezing, aristocratic dominance.

A phrase instantly popped into Summer's head: A cold, sophisticated gentleman masking a ruthless predator.

The man came to a stop a few feet away, maintaining a flawless, socially appropriate distance.

Summer tilted her head in genuine surprise. "Mr. Sinclair?"

Silas Sinclair.

Xavier's absolute biggest rival in the corporate world.
