As the eldest son of the Hawthorne family, Julian had been spoiled rotten his entire life. He was arrogant, reckless, and firmly believed he was above everyone else. No one had ever dared to insult him to his face.
Julian sneered, his tone turning vicious. "You stalked us all the way here, so cut the act. Don't be so ungrateful."
"What are you guys talking about?" Lily walked over with a sweet smile.
Even while pregnant, she wore high heels. Her slender figure swayed gracefully as she walked, exuding charm.
She looked like a butterfly desperately trying to attract the attention of every man around her.
"Just talking about a certain someone who followed us here," Julian declared, raising his voice to mock her.
Xavier remained expressionless, his cold gaze landing on Summer. He didn't say a word, maintaining the demeanor of a man who was still furious and had no intention of forgiving her.
Lily, on the other hand, smiled warmly, acting as if she and Summer were the best of friends. "Are you here to celebrate my welcome-home dinner too, Summer?"
Summer let out a derisive scoff. "Who do you think you are? You're just a weed. Me, celebrate you? Do you honestly think you're worthy?"
"Summer!" Xavier barked harshly.
Summer completely ignored him. Without so much as a glance in his direction, she turned to walk away, having zero desire to waste her time and energy on them.
It was pointless.
"You're not going anywhere!" Seeing her leave, Julian reached out, grabbed a handful of Summer's hair, and yanked it hard. "Apologize to Lily!"
Caught completely off guard, a sharp, stinging pain flared across Summer's scalp. She cried out, "Let go!"
Julian released her.
But the sudden force threw Summer off balance, and she tumbled backward.
Instinctively, Xavier took a step forward to catch her.
Seeing this, Lily quickly twisted her ankle. "Ah!" she cried out. "Xavier!"
Xavier whipped around. Seeing Lily stumbling, his expression shifted instantly, and he lunged toward her instead.
Julian also rushed forward to support Lily.
Thud!
Summer crashed heavily onto the concrete. The back of her head smacked against the ground, the impact sending a blinding wave of pain through her skull that brought involuntary tears to her eyes.
Julian let out a malicious snort of laughter.
Serves you right, he cursed in his head.
That's what you get for insulting me and targeting Lily.
Safely nestled in Xavier's arms, a triumphant gleam flashed in Lily's eyes. It seemed her insecurities abroad had been completely unfounded.
"Do you think lying on the ground is dignified, Summer? Have you no shame? If you want to lay there, then keep laying there."
With that chilling remark, Xavier turned on his heel and strode toward the restaurant.
As Lily walked past Summer with Hunter in hand, she let out a soft giggle. "We'll be going now, Summer."
And that little brat, Hunter, was even worse. He spat at her and viciously kicked out at her.
Summer instinctively reached out and grabbed his flailing foot.
But a second later, an adult man's foot slammed violently into her side.
"What the hell are you doing?! Let go of Hunter!" Julian roared. He had kicked her right where her back was already injured.
The heavy blow sent a jolt of agony through her.
Blinded by pain, Summer's grip on Hunter's ankle tightened instinctively.
"What are you doing?! Let go of me! Waaah!" Hunter began to scream and cry hysterically.
Xavier whipped around. Seeing Summer clutching Hunter's foot, his eyes turned murderous. "Summer!"
Seizing the opportunity, Julian delivered another brutal kick to vent his anger. "You're crossing the line, Summer! Let him go! He's just a child! Are you really taking your anger out on a kid? Are you even human?"
