After waving goodbye to Summer and Tessa, Leo adjusted his little backpack and walked straight into the kindergarten without looking back.
He didn't spare Xavier a single glance the entire time.
Summer stood frozen in place, utterly stunned. "?!"
While she had certainly entertained the idea of having Leo change his last name and call Xavier 'Uncle'...
She swore to God, she had never actually taught him to do it. It had only ever been a passing thought.
After all, the divorce wasn't officially finalized yet.
Her sweet, brilliant boy. They truly shared a telepathic connection.
Beside her, Tessa was laughing so hard she could barely breathe. The sheer satisfaction she felt in that moment was indescribable.
Xavier's face remained largely impassive, but his eyes darkened dangerously. When his gaze shifted to Summer, it was absolutely freezing.
Once Leo was completely out of sight, Summer turned to Tessa. "Let's go."
Frustrated by Summer's deliberate act of ignoring him, Xavier frowned. But what truly bothered him was Leo calling him 'Uncle'.
Leo was just a child. What could he possibly understand?
His actions were a direct reflection of the adults raising him.
Xavier glanced at Lily. Knowing exactly what he was thinking, Lily offered a gentle, understanding smile. "Go ahead, Xavier. Don't worry about us."
Xavier's gaze softened, and he nodded. "I'll be right back."
He turned and stormed after Summer.
"Summer!" Xavier called out, catching up to her just as she reached the car.
This time, Summer was in the driver's seat. She slammed her foot on the gas, and the car shot forward, leaving a bewildered Xavier coughing on her exhaust fumes.
Xavier stood rigidly on the side of the road, his face a mask of pure fury as he watched the car disappear into the distance.
Inside the car, Tessa was practically hysterical, stomping her feet and clapping her hands in sheer delight.
"Did you really not teach Leo to say that?"
"I swear I didn't," Summer shook her head.
"Leo is the absolute best! That was incredible! I hope that scumbag chokes on his own rage!"
Meanwhile.
Lily was sparing no effort to twist the knife in Summer's back.
She bought her own clothes, her own bags, her own jewelry, and even her own car.
As a result, she rarely ever touched the vehicles Xavier had purchased.
Thinking about this, she opened her banking app to check her balance.
She had earned a very lucrative salary over the years, but because she insisted on being fiercely independent, she hadn't saved much. She currently had only tens of thousands of dollars left to her name.
With a divorce looming and a child to raise, she needed to hustle.
Just then, a notification popped up from her bank.
Xavier had officially canceled her supplementary credit card.
Summer let out a dry chuckle and immediately brushed it off.
The elevator pinged as she arrived at the FutureTech Systems floor. The moment the doors slid open, two loud pops echoed through the lobby as colorful confetti rained down from the ceiling.
"Welcome to the team, Summer!"
Startled but absolutely thrilled, Summer stood frozen in place.
Gavin stepped forward with a warm smile, handing her a massive bouquet of flowers. "Did we scare you?"
