Seven was hustling in the kitchen, and the dining table was loaded with all kinds of dishes.

Dora sat on the sofa, taking in the crowd filling her home, and felt a strange, deep sense of satisfaction rising inside her.

“I know,” she said, her voice lazy and teasing. “And then?”

Rafe pushed up his glasses, a barely–there smile playing at the corners of his mouth as he watched the whole thing.

Clive stayed quiet, but for a moment, something soft flashed in his eyes.

Lucian looked as indifferent as ever, like he was just a bystander.

Lioren shot Elmer a glare, then walked over to the dining table.

Everyone took their seats, and Dora raised her glass.

“Planning what?” Rafe asked.

“I’m mapping out where the Blackflame Trading Guild is headed,” Dora replied.

She pointed at the numbers on her Optical Brain. “See? Now we’ve got over thirty female members who’ve advanced their Spatial Realm abilities, and their beast mates are getting stronger supernatural ability too.

“Give it another six months, and this crew’s fighting strength will totally rival the military’s elite squads.”

Rafe nodded. “And they’re all people we can trust.”

“Exactly,” Dora said, her smile dazzling and full of mischief. “By then, Blackflame Trading Guild won’t just be some shadowy group anymore.

“We’ll have people in both the legit world and the underworld.”

Rafe looked at her, his blue eyes shining with admiration.

“Dory, you know something?” he said. “You’re really made to be a leader.”

Dora raised an eyebrow. “How so?”

“You’ve got vision, you think big, and you always stand up for your people,” Rafe said with a smile.

“Anyone who follows you ends up totally devoted.”

Dora felt a bit awkward from the compliment and cleared her throat. “Alright, alright, stop buttering me up. It won’t earn you any brownie points.”

Rafe stayed serious. “Brownie points or not, I just had to say it. It’s the honest truth.”

Their eyes met, and something unspoken lingered in the air between them.

Just then, Elmer called down from upstairs.

When Elmer saw Dora coming upstairs, he hid in the shadows, waiting for her right outside her room.

He had Seven help him gather all the novels Dora loved to read.

Dora jumped when she saw him step out of the shadows.

“Elmer? What are you doing here?” Dora asked.

Dora blinked, surprised.

Then she laughed.

She was laughing so hard she nearly doubled over, tears threatening to spill from her eyes.

Elmer’s face went beet red in a flash.
