But Audrey wasn’t the type to just sit around and do nothing, especially not when she had her own plans. The truth was, she wanted to go to Harrisburg for one reason: to chase after Walter. It had been way too long since they’d seen each other. If she didn’t make a move soon, someone else might swoop in and snatch him up.

She tried to reason with her brother. “I’ll talk to Mom, Dad, and Grandpa myself. You just need to say yes to Harrisburg. I know my body and I’m totally fine. I went abroad for school, which was way farther, and I handled it just fine. I won’t have to stay in Harrisburg long, and it’s not like I’ll be working alone or anything. I won’t wear myself out.”

Dennis still wouldn’t budge. “Studying abroad was different, you had no choice. Right now, you don’t need to do anything. Please, just listen and take it easy.”

Audrey groaned and went over to tug on his arm, laying on the charm. “Come on, let me go! I’m bored out of my mind just sitting at home every day. This isn’t just about work, it’s a chance to get out and see something new, maybe have a little fun. You guys are always saying you’re worried about my health, so think of this as a way for me to relax. When I was abroad, you freaked out every time I traveled, always worried about my safety. Now I’ll be in our own country, seeing all the beautiful places here. That has to be safer, right? If you’re really worried, you can send people with me.”

Dennis shook his head. “No. If you want a change of scenery, there’s a new project just finished on the edge of the city. You can handle the ribbon-cutting and spend a few days there.”

Audrey’s face dropped. “The outskirts? That’s basically the front yard. What’s the difference?”
