After a while, his voice came out low and rough. “You promised you’d stay with me.”
“I did,” Camila said quietly, pressing her face into his chest, searching for comfort.
Her health kept going up and down, so she stayed at the institute for a few more days. When things got really bad, they even put her in isolation. Only Dennis was allowed in to see her.
When her fever finally broke, Kyle and Jarvis agreed she could go home. Sarah Brown and Larry Adams showed up the very first day to check on her. The moment they saw Camila, they both froze, stunned by how much weight she had lost since they last visited.
Even Melissa George and her husband noticed something was seriously wrong. No regular cold would make someone look this fragile. But since Lillian was there, they kept their worries to themselves.
Later, when Sarah took Lillian outside to play, Melissa finally cornered Dennis. “Dennis, just be honest with us. What’s really going on with Camila? This isn’t just some little fever, is it?”
Jerry Davis stood beside his wife, both of them watching Dennis, hoping for the truth. Dennis knew he couldn’t hide it any longer. Camila’s health was only getting worse, and even if he tried to reassure them now, they’d find out soon enough.
