Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1196

Her eyes locked with Billy Brown’s blank, unreadable face. The shock of it snapped Sarah back to reality, and her nerves got the better of her. She ended up biting Larry Adams right on the lip.

“Ow…” Larry winced, a sharp hiss escaping him as a clear bite mark, edged with a little blood, showed up on his mouth.

“What happened?” Larry asked, still clueless that Billy was standing just outside the car window, watching them with obvious confusion.

Sarah didn’t even bother explaining. She pressed the window button, face tight with irritation, and snapped, “Billy Brown, are you trying to scare me to death in the middle of the night?”

Billy’s expression never changed. He just stared at the two of them and said, “Your car’s been out here forever, and you never got out. I thought I’d check if you were getting up to something inappropriate right outside the door.”

He glanced at Larry’s bloody lip. “Guess I was right.”

The way he said it, like he’d just caught them red-handed, made Larry want to laugh and groan at the same time. He wiped the blood away and tried to reason with Billy. “Come on, man, a kiss between a couple is totally normal. That’s all we were doing. You can’t ruin our moment just because you’re not getting any yourself.”

Sarah, of course, backed her boyfriend up. She nodded, jumping in, “Exactly. I bet Aurora’s ignoring you again tonight and you’re just taking it out on us. You can’t stand to see us happy, can you?”

Billy narrowed his eyes, his voice taking on a warning edge. “It’s windy out here. Didn’t catch that. Care to repeat it?”

No mistaking that tone. If they dared to say it again, he’d probably split them up right on the spot.
