Walter nodded and reached out his hand, expecting Audrey to give back his glasses.
But she just smiled and hid them behind her back, looking up at him with big, pleading eyes. “Do you really have to wear them?” she asked.
She looked exactly like a kid begging for more dessert.
Walter paused, suddenly unsure. The words that came out were the opposite of what he meant to say. “I guess I don’t… have to.”
It wasn’t a big deal, honestly. They were just glasses, and he didn’t even need them to see. Wearing them or not made no real difference.
Audrey’s whole face lit up. “Really? Then how about you leave them off? Or if you want, just wear them in the car and take them off before we go in?”
Walter gave a helpless smile, still not understanding why she cared so much about the glasses. But if it made her happy, what was the point of insisting? “All right, I won’t wear them. Let’s get in the car.”
He noticed how cheerful she seemed tonight. There was no reason to ruin her mood over something so trivial.
“You’re the best, Walter!” Audrey beamed. She decided Walter was probably the most easygoing person ever.
Her feelings were so obvious, Walter could almost feel her happiness radiating. Even though he didn’t totally get why she was so delighted, he couldn’t help but smile too.
After they got in the car, Audrey’s grin never faded. She pulled out a small box and offered it to him. “Here, take this as a trade!”
Walter glanced at the box in her hand. “What is it?”
She gave him a mysterious smile. “Open it and see.”
Walter couldn’t resist her, so he took the box from her and opened it. Inside were some pills.
He shot her a questioning look.
Audrey giggled. “My dress tonight doesn’t have pockets, and I didn’t want to carry a purse, so could you hold my medicine for me? If I need it, I’ll just come to you.”
“Sure,” Walter said with a little laugh. He was going to stay close to her anyway, so what difference did it make who carried the medicine? He slipped the box into his suit pocket without another word.
From the driver’s seat, Aiden watched them in the rearview mirror, secretly impressed.
How did Ms. Williams do it? She hadn’t even caught the CEO’s heart yet, but he already did whatever she wanted.
Walter Wilson was never known for being easy to please. In fact, with most people, he was tough and unapproachable. But when it came to Audrey, his attitude was special… different from anyone else.
If things kept going like this, Aiden thought, it was only a matter of time before Walter fell head over heels for her.
After silently marveling at the situation, Aiden turned his attention back to the road and started the car.
