Audrey gave in and pulled her hand away, a little helpless.
Walter pressed the call button for the nurse, getting ready to find the doctor.
Right at that moment, the door swung open.
They both turned around, surprised to see Walter’s parents step inside.
What really caught them off guard, though, was that Douglas Williams and Charlotte Kelly had come along with them too.
Audrey blinked, surprised. “Dad, Mom, when did you get here?”
Charlotte’s face didn’t give much away, but her eyes were filled with worry as she looked at Audrey.
Douglas answered, “We just arrived. Ran into Mr. and Mrs. Wilson downstairs.”
They’d already heard about everything that happened last night from Dennis. With only one daughter, they couldn’t sit still, so they hopped on the earliest flight they could find.
They didn’t expect to catch Audrey right in the middle of confessing her feelings to Walter, though.
Charlotte's expression when she heard it was complicated. She already knew Audrey had feelings for Walter but she never expected her daughter to be this straightforward. And for them to walk in at that exact moment...
Still, all four parents understood their kids. No one interrupted. Now, seeing the two together, they couldn’t help thinking how good Audrey and Walter looked as a couple. The moment Charlotte saw how lively Audrey seemed, any worries she had started to fade.
Then Leda spoke up, her concern obvious. “We heard about last night. I never thought Iris would stoop so low. Audrey, you really went through a lot.”
Audrey still wasn’t clear about everything, so she paused at Leda’s words. “So it was Iris?”
She glanced at Walter. “Did she do anything else besides lock me up?”
Walter hesitated for a second, then left out the details and just told her what ended up happening.
Audrey frowned hard after hearing it. “That woman is out of her mind! How could she be so shameless?”
Thank goodness Walter had noticed she was missing and found her in time. Otherwise, who knows what could’ve happened.
Walter wasn’t even thinking about all that. He turned to face Audrey’s parents, an apology in his eyes. “Uncle, Camila, I’m so sorry. I should have kept Audrey safe.”
