Keira scoffed, “Of course. Someone from the streets would have no manners.”

Isabelle wanted to fire back, but out of respect for the Cross family’s long–standing relationship with them, and not wanting to ruin Christmas with a scene, she held her tongue.
But Damian’s expression had darkened. His fists clenched unconsciously.
His deep–set eyes turned cold and hard.
“The police haven’t issued any findings. Even if fingerprints were found, it doesn’t prove anything. There’s no need for such aggression.” He raised his wrist to check the time.
“Celeste said she didn’t turn the stove on. The police found her fingerprints on the knob. And you saw her go back into the kitchen before you left. Who else could it be? The conclusion is obvious,” Sean accused.
It was true–Damian had seen Isabelle return to the kitchen. He’d been in a hurry and hadn’t noticed whether the stove was on or off, or what she did there.
Isabelle parted her lips slightly, her gaze burning into Celeste, who was on the bed and putting on a frail, tearful act, saying nothing -playing the traumatized victim.
“Is that so? Are you absolutely sure it was off?” Isabelle pressed, her patience wearing thin.
Celeste swallowed nervously but showed no outward sign of
guilt.
Isabelle sneered.
She did have the stove on. I was the one who turned it off. And now they’re using that to frame me?
“Guilt is for the police to determine. Mr. Snow, aren’t you overstepping?” The voice came from the doorway. It was Collin.
He leaned casually against the doorframe, rotating his wrist. The two bodyguards who had been blocking the entrance were now slumped against the wall, groaning.
Damian’s frown deepened.
Why is he here again?
Sean recognized the man at the door and quickly stepped forward. “Mr. Dorfman.”
A faint, tight smile appeared on Keira’s lips. On the bed, Celeste straightened up, suddenly looking more alert.
Collin ignored Sean’s offered handshake and walked over to stand beside Damian and Isabelle.
“You should’ve gone straight home to rest after discharge. Running around made me search all over for you.” His tone was full of familiar concern, directed solely at Isabelle,
“My wife’s affairs are no concern of Mr. Dorfman’s,” Damian said, his voice icy. Collin met his gaze with a clear, steady one.
Isabelle rubbed her forehead. “Collin, what are you doing here?”

Is everyone gathering here today?
His showing up is just going to cause more misunderstandings. I’ll never hear the end of it from Damian.

“Officer Trevor Larson just called me. They might need you to come down to the station. I figured you’d just been discharged and might still be here, so I came up. Lucky guess,” he said with a slight smile.
His eyes stayed on Isabelle, making no attempt to hide his focus.
He turned his head, looking at Celeste on the bed. His lips pressed into a thin line.
Then he said, “Ms. Snow, you’re a reasonable person. There are many ways a gas explosion could happen. The police won’t overlook any detail. Trying to detain someone now… are you worried she might uncover something else? Trying to wrap this up
before she finds it?”
Celeste paled slightly but quickly regained her composure. “Collin, it’s nothing like that. You’re overthinking. We just wanted to ask Ms. Foster a few questions. That’s all.”
Her subtle shifts in demeanor didn’t escape Damian.
It confirms it. This usually graceful woman is capable of these kinds of games.
As for Isabelle, she was someone who settled every score. She never let herself be wronged. Gary, Nicole, Finley–everyone who hurt her paid a heavy price.
